Acoustic Windscreen?

Looking for help please, I have a cracked/chipped windscreen.

When making claim and discussing with the kind lady from Autoglass this morning it looks like it is a replacement needed and not a repair.

The details as on the cracked windscreen are as above, it looks like the original, though she asked is it an 'Acoustic'.

Appreciate one of you experts informing me if I have an 'Acoustic' screen fitted as above or not..

How do I tell please

Thank you, Keith.

I seem to remember there being a speaker symbol etched near the type numbers if it''s acoustic.

Have a search through the forum to be sure.

Mike

Hi Keith

Your text details are slightly different but if it has the two marks in the photo below it may well be acoustic, these also appear on the door windows, vindecoder (https://www.vindecoderz.com/) may assist. Perhaps a message to Dan at Duckworths or the Land Rover Customer Care thread on the board may assist.

This is a shot of the screen markings on our 2011 showing the acoustic and heated marks at the bottom

If you have unlimited cover for glazing on your car, then you should be able to have the acoustic screen fitted for the excess you have to pay, assuming you are not doing this from your own pennies. Do insist on Land Rover marked glass, as you may be fobbed of with only the Pilkington mark. We recently had a side door window replaced and that was covered, but it took a week to get the OEM LR marked glass. It may also help in reselling with original glass as it would be proper Land Rover marked glass.

Hope this helps

Richard

Re: Acoustic Windscreen?

Unnecessary quote removed

I thought the M1260 needed a -1 after it to denote an acoustic screen.

But this may not be true.

The other thing to look for is an ear symbol.

This post explains it all: http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic36415.html What do I put here then?

Thank you for all the help.

Amazingly at 16:55 on the Friday before a Bank Holiday the screen was deemed irreparable by the friendly Autoglass Specialist Technician, who left to go on his holiday.

I then insisted on Land Rover OEM glass at a premium, but in the meantime, my local independent MOT Tester said it is not a fail, being in a part of the screen which is impossible to look through unless the dash was removed and you sat on the floor!

Local screen guy repaired it in 25 minutes for the same in Pounds.

Job done!

Regards, Keith.

That’s funny, Autoglass managed to do the same to a small star crack on mine and a new screen was deemed necessary. I don’t imagine that Autoglass find themselves completing a successful repair that often... Just unlucky, I suppose Whistle

It helps to deaden noise, but I don’t know how (which is probably what you were asking! Embarassed )

Correct! Was wondering what is the diffirence between the FFRR screen and our FL2 screen?I was always under the impression that sealing is the way to combat noise on a windscreen.Maybe the RR acoustic one is thicker than normal to combat outside noise? 2012 TDV8 Vogue SE 4.4

Ouch!

Here in NZ it is very hard to get OEM glass fitted - they use a lot of Chinese stuff which *technically* passes the tests (allegedly) but very few insurers will pay for OEM.

I had a Toyota Alphard hybrid that had a special windscreen that reflected UV etc so that the a/c did not have to work so hard. It got replaced with a bog standard Chinese one and not only were the edges not optically clear (the view bent like a lens) but the heat of the sun on my legs was many times more than it had been with the original Toyota glass.

You used to be able to get away with OEM because the Chinese had not mastered complexities like heating wires in the glass etc but now they can do that.

All that surfing on the internet paid dividends for the Chinese then! Rolling Eyes Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

Wow, that's some incredible glass if it can make that much of a difference in a convertible with the top down!
