hi my 2004 vogue has failed its mot on osf outer cv gaiter and rear hand brake efficiency what is involved is it beyond a competent home mechanic

Regarding your gaiter, you have to buy the inner and outer boot together which is a bit of a pain:

I paid a garage an hour's labour to fit mine as it's a nasty messy job to do on the drive, the greas in there is horrible stuff. So expect to pay no more than £100 inc parts & labour for that.

Or if you need to replace the shoes, I paid £70 inc parts & labour for this.

Get the garage to fit the soft flexible rubber boot, they are much easier to work with and don't require the drive shaft to be stripped down for fitting

thanks for your advise they did the brakes on the road i just wanted to know if you have the front air suspension de pressurised before removing the front hub to do the drive shaft boot thank you

No need to de-pressurise the suspension, you'll need a 36mm bi-hex socket for the hub nut and removing the shaft from the hub will be very tight

Just back from 1st MOT on the latest TDV8 and they used the decelerometer in the car park and job done in 5 minutes and no rolling road. They tested the ebrake but not with the car moving so quite sensible really.
