Thanks, Do I buy a new wheel bearing off ebay for £40-50 that I assume will require pressing in after the old one pressed out or can I buy a new hub assembly to swap out? 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.

Out of interest, and sorry to hijack the thread. If I’m driving and put it into neutral can I just put it back into drive while I’m still going? Or do I need to stop the car first? |

I had a similar thing on an old car and it turned out to be the engine tray being loose. The remaining clips kept it in place until I got to about 60 then it would fold down and make a constant buffering sound and feel.

I have a strange noise as well. It makes a dull thump thump noise when I pull away and speeds up the faster I go. The frequency between thumps is consistent with the outside diameter of the tyre hitting the road surface. In other words it’s not a fast thump which would come from a rapidly spinning driveshaft or bearing/hub. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded |

Andy I think you'll find your driveshafts and hub bearings turn at the same rate as your tyres/wheels? Previously a 2008MY Tonga Green Vogue SE 3.6 TDV8 |

IF as in my case the drones tone varies according to road speed and worsens/gets louder when the steering wheel is turned left, so I deduce the noise origin is either, wheel bearing, cv drive shaft joint wear, tyre problem, diff problem, brake caliper /disc/pad rubbing or catching as ALL these revolve in direct proportion to road speed, I'm inclined to think its the bearings but they need pressing out and new pressed in unless I obtain a complete hub off a scrapper for a more straightforward swap over, the noise is getting quite intrusive now with tingle /vibration through the steering wheel. 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.
