2016 TD6 common problems

So I will probably in the market for a 2016 fullfat td6 in about 2 years. "Upgrading" from my 2004 fullfat 4.4. What are the issues to prepare for with this model. Only thing I found from car and driver review was the electronics. Are the that abysmal and are they correctable/upgradeable? It will have in the neighborhood of 100k miles +-. Thanks

The L405 (latest shape since 2013) has a TDV6 - the TD6 was a bmw 3L straight six which stopped being fitted in 2007 when the 3.6L TDV8 replaced it.

There are a number of posts on this engine where only one real problem has reared its head, but not in any great number.

Personally I would get the tdv8 4.4L diesel but if I lived in the US it would be 5.0L (pref SVA) all the way baby!

I actually have the 2016 MY L405 with the 3 litre diesel and am very pleased with it after 33,000 miles. No problems, very smooth (probably smoother than the v8 ) and more than enough power; and ours spends a lot of time towing horses about.

Yes, that's about the TD6's maximum speed.

The electrical socket for the tow hitch was faulty on delivery and the onboard service due indicator does not work correctly. There is a fix but I can't be bothered to take it in. Otherwise all good.

Oops. 30 MPG. Although I do drive like the boot is full of nitroglycerin.

Same here 2016 model with 30k miles....no issues at all engine wise. Only 1 problem when the tailgate lost synch but that could happen to any L405. 2021 L405 Vogue D300

Search on here for threads about TDV6 engine failures/seizures and there is a current thread about engine oil being diluted with diesel leading to reduced service intervals/engine wear. Maybe also look at Discovery and RR Sport forums, that engine is used very often in those applications, though I recall reading that the less spacious engine bays there might cause more problems than in the 405. Only Range Rovers since 1988

The TSB seems to imply it was a rare event from improper factory install of the bearings. I would assume if it hasn't broken by the time it hits 76k or more, when I'd be looking to buy, it's not one of the problem motors.
