As always I try to do stuff on a shoestring budget and have got some way to do a custom DIY ECU remap. I just don't have the guts yet to press the "write" button as I need my car for work every day at the moment. Anyway, you need a laptop running Windows XP. A cheap eBay interface with Galletto software. You read the ECU file from your car by selecting BMW E53 X5, then the Siemens ECU. If it connects ok you can then copy the original ECU map file. Once you have the file send it off to a specialist mapper and tell them what you want regarding economy and performance.

Check your Turbo Actuator isn't stuck, or not moving for another reason, Mine was missing a bit of vacuum hose and was a slow as hell. Replaced and off she goes.

Haven't remapped yet but have done the EGR blank. Made a very noticeable improvement in both pick up/acelleration and economy |

Any idea on how to check the turbo, it seems buried and then they built the rest of the car about it!!!!!

I managed to get to the actuator from below, with a pair of grips. And Che k it moved. Then traced the hoses up, and found one missing, replaced and was working again. |
