Evoque....horrible!

Whilst recall P054 was being completed I was given an Evoque as a courtesy car. I have to say it’s horrible! The ‘squashed roof’ design carries on into the interior resulting in a really horrible low down driving position Sad ....I was so glad to get the FF back!

The last time that I had an Evoque as a loan car it was because my Freelander was in for service and I enjoyed getting my Freelander back, so I can only imagine what it must be like getting a FF back! Shocked

I swore that I’d never own a horrible automatic and now I’ve owned 4 in a row since Land Rover made it Hobson’s choice in all new decent Land Rovers. Now I actually like them a lot. Curse you, damn Land Rover, for what you’ve done to me! Twisted Evil

Crikey! I've been driving autos for years and wouldn't choose anything else for driving in traffic. My first RR (183 model) was a manual - the LT95 4-speed. I sold it and got an '86 (or was it '87) model with ZF auto as my wife had broken her foot and couldn't depress the really heavy clutch on the '83. I had considered fitting a power booster to the clutch of the '83.

The last manual my wife had was our '71 Hillman Hunter (given away in 2008). Ron B. VK2OTC

I thought evoque's would age horribly, but as other models have carried similar styling details it's actually still looking ok.

Quite like them now, though I haven't driven one, and wouldn't really want to own one. Even in JLR's range there's nothing like sitting in a RR with that high seating and low window line.

It’s the high seating / low window line that I really like and since the demise of the Discovery, the L405 is the last one Sad

A ‘71 Hillman Hunter! My last primary school teacher had one of those and I’m in my mid 50’s!! Laughing

I actually quite like them. Seriously considering ditching the current FF for one in the foreseeable future. Its consistently been a vehicle which both me and the wife have liked. We had one as a courtesy car for a few weeks once. The only downside at the time was the lower rear door for putting a baby seat in. Our lad is nearly 6 now, so no issue.

Other than that, I thought the space was fine ... if anything, much better driver legroom space than the L322.

I'm only really holding onto the FF because I need to to tow some loads > 2ton over the next year or so. After that, its going.

We bought a new mini last year, and its totally sold me on a smaller, lighter, nimbler vehicle which the Evoque is. V8 or else ...

We have an evoque Confused

Had it 4 years, from new. It is a cracking car, been absolutely faultless.

You need to compare apples with apples.
The evoque is half the cost of an FFRR.
Pitch it against things like the audi Q5, BMW x3/x5, etc and it wins hands down for fit and finish.
Once the wife drove the evoque everything else got compared to it, and there was simply no comparison.

Sure, it isn't an FFRR, but it's the wife's car and at the time she didn't want an FFRR as she thought it was too big.
That's why I bought an L322 for me Very Happy

I can see us having both of them for a long time to come Cool

Oh, and a friend had a hobby hunter too. The rest of us had dolomite sprints Mr. Green Too many toys, not enough time

Unfortunately, we didn't get the Holbay in Oz. The Hunter Royal 660 I had was basically a Sceptre - note the badges on the bonnet and the doors - but without the overdrive (which I later fitted). It had an alloy head and twin carbs. Ron B. VK2OTC
