Thread resurrection I know, after collecting my car from a repair from a MD, I noticed a loud whistling noise from the nearside front wing when travelling at speed which wasn't there before they laid their mits on it. Turns out they had dislodged the top wing insulator which had then fell into the hinge area of the door.
So yes it does do a good job of keeping wind noise out. In fact without it fitted you can look right through to the front of the bonnet. Might as well get the other side as well because it also is falling to bits.

Are you sure it wasn't whistling because of where it had been dislodged to..?

I also think if you remove one you have to remove both or you will get wind noise...

Try with them both off before ordering new..  Pete

Hi Pete. It had broken into two pieces and fell down by the door hinge. I've just used some UHU glue to fasten the pieces together and I'm going to refit it and see if the noise goes away.
The new parts are £40 odd quid each so if the noise stops I'll leave it until they completely disintegrate.

It's obviously a car specific problem, my 2002 ones had long gone and never had any noise, the 2012 ones were pretty awful so I removed them and it was fine as well...!!

Just noticed the left hand bonnet one is missing. The right one is all complete though.

Regarding RJH's post about earlier models not having them fitted, just looked at my 2006, nothing there, and absolutely no evidence of any glue ever being in that vicinity, so RJH is probably correct.

Just went out to check, not long after going out to look at my OBD port for that thread, methinks the neighbours now think I am losing the plot, bad news is I would agree with them

After refitting the foam the noise has gone.

Mine's missing from the passenger side and I can definitely hear wind noise from that area and not from the drivers side so will try removing the drivers side one and to see what happens. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Drivers side removed and no noticeable noise today on the M-Way 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Removed mine years ago, makes no difference at all.
