E G R PROBLEMS

hi all, my engine management light has come on, took it took a local garage for diagnostic check and the code came up as e g r fault, have been advised to giv e the car a good long run because they believe the egr dont like me just doing short little runs all the time, the engine management light was off when i picked the car up so i head off to give it a good run. 5 minutes down the road descided to open her up a bit soon as i put my foot down the enginemanagement light came back on, the garage said if this happens i will have to replace both egr because they wont know which ones at fault, is this good advise, if it is how much am i looking at to replace them many thanks LANDROVER HISTORY 2000 DISCOVERY 2 E. 2003 DISCOVERY 2 ES. 2005 DISCOVERY 3 HSE, 2009 RANGEROVER WESTMINSTER

Had the same problem at 2007 TDV8, only cleaning was best and cheapest method, cleaning also the potis inside the EGR, 10.000km without any lights...., seven hours job, described here in wiki.

Try induction cleaner. I used Revive. It’s available in uk. Then remap to disable EGR. ______________________________

Otherwise you might need to specifically clean the EGR as suggested above. ______________________________

If it's a 3.6 then your best option is to have the EGR's removed and blanked and then the car remapped to accommodate.

If they are starting to stick then there's an inevitable chance that they will break up inside and the engine will digest them. Then you will have a big problem.

Mot is just a visual inspection so as long as it looks like it's got EGR's then you will be fine.

MoT testers are not allowed to remove covers. As long as the top engine cover is on, there is no way to see if you have EGRs enabled or not.

BTW, for the original poster, the engine diagnostics (LR or IID) will tell you exactly which EGR is failing and with what.
