Stereo Issue

Hi Folks,

Probably been covered before. My Stereo somewhat mutes itself every so often although I can still hear some sound coming from the rear of the car (boot so probably sub..?) Seems to happen when I go over a bump or after half an hour of driving. It doesn't happen all the time and sometimes loads of times on a short trip.

I'm thinking loose connection or water in the units but a simple turn off and on again clears the issue (for the time being)

Sometimes it also goes off and then comes back on again if I hit another bump or even turn right..!!

Any ideas where I should start to look.? Ash

first thing as you say would t be check the connections- in the left rear compartment- i would remove/replace connectors and also have a nose around to see if any water is obvious.

what you describe is how the sat nav voice works but yours is without the voice .[does that make sense]
when a direction is spoken by the nav ,this slightly mutes the radio/cd so the nav voice can be heard. yours is muting for something to be said over the radio/cd but no voice is there ..i'm not sure if the phone does this as well but it could be that. ... - .- -.

Have you checked for water in the boot? Do you leave the A/C on?

Well I did check the boot a week or so ago and there was water in there. i do keep the AC on all the time. I dried up the water and no more in there since.

What I can't work out is I just turn the radio off and on straight away it's fine..?

Does it sound like water??

I don't have RR phone. There is a bluetooth phone kit in the car but it does not mute the sound or go via the car speakers so totally independant.

I'll go through unplugging and replugging in first I think but am doubtfull. Surely if was a lose connection it would not come back on with the off/on method. Ash

All of the modules talk to each other on start up/turn on. So if you have a loose connection and one module then cant see another - it then wont do its "handshake" until its been turned off and on again. Does that makes sense?

RE the water in your boot, check behind the bumper (look from underneath) for a small oblong hole with some tape over it:

Thanks Dan, Will check for the hole.

re the handshake business - Totally understand. So I start the car and everything is fine. If I go over a bump it all goes quiet. (ie one unit is taken out of the loop). Turn radio off and on again they try to handshake... But if the connection is lose then it wont be able to talk... But it always works by turn off/on method. Not necessarily go over another bump to re connect and then turn off/on (If you see what I mean)? Ash
