i have just (this weekend) changed all my dirveline oils, having looked around i opted to purchase from the deailer, with postage etc factored in there was very little proce difference. It may be worth ringing a uk dealer and asking them to post to you |

Just buy any quality 75/90 . If you can get Red Line brand thats more than a great gear oil for our RR.

Thanks for that, I spoke to the dealer today, they had no diff oil in stock and told me the transfer is sealed for life ( we all know what that means ) and even the exchange transfers they fit come filled with oil?? spoke to castrol australia and they say that saf xo is made under licence to land rover and bmw and only delivered to them. penrite is a good brand over here and they list a semi-synthetic 75w90 for the diff and a 75-80 for the transfer, I suppose a semi-synthetic will do as long as its all changed. my rangey is at the age now where it needs good regular services and TLC so doing all the oils is no problem, been using penrite hpr 5-40 in the engine during summer and reckon its very good. will check out the red line out. cheers neil 03 TD6 vogue....Epsom, very nice 03 TD6 se....gone 94 Vogue se....gone |

Hi tom, have you noticed a marked change in your gearbox since? I am thinking about having my gearbox oil changed - coming up to 90,000 miles now. Still runs fine with no probs, but pre-emptive strike now may avoid later costly damage methinks. |

Is it safe to use compatible oils in the diff/transfer? If affirmative, what are the types and quantities? |

Price wise. diff oil was £9.92 inc vat per litre and the transfer box oil was £9.20 inc vat per litre ( i bought 2 and used 1 and a bit to do a change) I do get some discount as my father in law is in the trade so may be slightly more! |

@ dolphinboy, yes it certainly seems smoother on th change, not sure the transefer box/diff oils made much differenc ebut the stuff that came out was not nice! cvar has covered 82k so plenty long enough on the oil in my opinion, when you consider on the 90's etc they get changed every 24k or so ( or yearly on mine) and they are far less complex.Well worth doing as preventitive maintenance. |

Just changed diff and transfer case oils, the front diff takes about 0.9 litres, the transfer box 1 litre (phew!) but the rear diff swallowed more than 1.4 litres, not just one as stated! The diff oils were ok, yellow and clean, but the transfer case oil was very dirty! The 75W90 diff oil is 7EUR/l, but the transfer one is 26EUR/l! |
