Replaced continental with Pirelli tyres - mistake?

Hi. I have just replaced some heavily worn continental tyres with Pirelli’s Verdes 275/40/22 mounted on 22 inch turbines. Having had them balanced twice and now much happier with the balancing I am absolutely convinced the new tyres have considerably worsened the ride quality. Every bump and hole is much firmer and the car seems to have more squeaks as a result of being a lot firmer. The contis and turbines were always a compromised set up but I learnt to Live with them. The Pirelli’s are going to have to go if they don’t get softer. Any views or experience of Pirelli’s being any worse ride than the contis? Could this be the reason why some find the turbines unacceptable and others like myself get use to them. ? All views welcome before I spend more money or sell the bloody thing. 2013 L405 AB 4.4SDV8 Luxor/Ivory, 2007 Vogue TDV8 Epson Green/Sand, 2008 Vogue TDV8 Buckingham Blue/Sand, 2003 Vogue 4.4 LPG Epsom Green/Sage, 1998 Vogue SE 4.6 LPG Epsom Green/Cream

This might sound mad but have you double checked the pressures? It really makes a big difference.

However, I'm one of those who had 22's just once and have opted for 21's ever since as I personally think they ride just a little more firm than I'd like them to; that said I've only had Pirelli Scorpions, so couldn't tell you if there was a noticeable difference in ride quality between the two. 2016 SDV8 Autobiography

Check your pressures. Sounds like your garage may have over inflated the tyres. I think my fronts are at 32psi.. they were at 36 and drove awful, very bumpy twitchy and light. With 32psi, much better.. I am running 20's though... 2010 FF 4.4 TDV8 Vogue - Gone

I have Conti, 275/40/20 and run them on the low pressure / light load setting as there is only usually max 2 or 2 in the car - and usually just me. They are fine - yes they are firmer but not excessive. As said above check your pressures - and also check your gauge as I have one that runs 3 psi too much.

New tyres also need 500 to 1000 miles to settle in and the side walls to get used to the flexing - they are fairly stiff when new - particularly when there isn't much sidewall 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Contis seem to have quite soft shoulders, hence these wear off quickly, but they do seem to give a quieter and softer feeling ride. Pirellis a bit firmer but more durable. The 2015 brochure says "if 22" wheels are fitted ride and road noise will be degraded on some coarser road surfaces, conversely steering and handling will be slightly improved on faster roads."

I've also heard of 22s bursting tyres in off road situations, and not just James May on TG. Only Range Rovers since 1988

That's exactly why I bought an extra set of 285/50/20 on std L405 Wheels to compliment my 22's - they go on in the shooting season. The 285's give even more sidewall than a skinny L322 255/50/20 Tyre 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
