It's not normal. If the pistons in the caliper are corroded when the new pads are installed, the pistons can stick, as the rough corroded end is pushed back into the caliper when the thicker new pad is inserted. There can also be damage to the dust seals which again can jam the pistons. Occasionally some debris gets trapped between pad and disc, but that should make a noise all the time, and generally drop out before too long. Wheels heating up would be a sign of sticking brakes. Further (honest and competent) examination required. Only Range Rovers since 1988 |

Might just be a light coating of rust because its been stood a while, worse in winter, in laws clio auto was terrible for it first touch of the brakes in the winter. |

I had something similar - don’t drive anywhere until you have checked - in my case the two halves of the front discs had come apart Current stable:

If the brake pads are not correctly made you can end up with the pad just sticking above the disc.. this produces a little limp on the pad and it makes a similar noise to what you've described... you'd need to pop a wheel off to see, but if there is any pad going over the top of the disc, knock it off with a screwdriver / chisel or the like! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
