I had similar when i had my 350Z as it had a LSD. found a local MOT center which used pressure plates to test the brakes. At first glance looked like a floor lift but the reversed the car off then drove on with a bit of speed. slammed on an the sensors calculated the brake bias etc. Very clever bit of kit. Will be taking the RR there come MOT time. |

Most people would not be so familiar with the MOT procedure, I wonder how many 4x4 owners get stiffed for faulty breaks, and leave with damage to their 4WD components all because the tester does not follow the correct procedure.

I hope you won't be taking your vehicle in there then! ![]() There is only one correct way to do it and that's with the Decelerometer. My local MOT garage hardly ever does 4x4s but they are well aware of the correct proceedure, and have done it correctly on my Defender. I'm pretty sure drivetrain components are not designed for speed differences between back and front or left and right wheels. |

I suppose an axle diff is easier and cheaper to repair than the centre diff at least. The VOSA instructions speciffically say not to - so fail to understand why the testers do. ![]() |

Don't know what year the electronic handbrake came in but don't fancy the idea of this being activated at 20mph as stated in the VOSA guidelines. I tried engaging it at a couple of mph only and that was severe enough. Don't know if it would do the car any good either.
