Does Transfer Box Stepper Motor require mapping to ECU?

I am considering replacing my Stepper Motor (IGH500010) on 2003 L322 TD6. The new LR part is priced at over £2k and aftermarket variant priced at around £820.
Does the new Stepper Motor need to be mapped to ECU using T4 Code book or similar Diagnostic PC?, or can this simply be swapped out, without mapping to ECU/ECM??

Also has anyone on this forum had any experience using a company on the internet www.4x4lro.co.uk that claim to remanufacture Stepper Motors with supposedly improved potentiometer for £385?. See extract from their website below:-

“Based on our knowledge, we are aware that performance criticality is based on products being able to perform in severe conditions. With this in mind, we were approached by a contact from a Land Rover Specialist regarding the reconditioning of the L322 Gear Shift Motor. This hosts the potentiometer which serves as the crucial sensor to the electronic feedback of the ECU but has a history of instability in older vehicles and as such is difficult and costly to replace.
Our aim was to seek a more rugged sensor than the potentionmeter and we investigated alternative sensing technologies. Eventually, we identified the ideal sensor which we believe is the best, and most cost efficient solution for the harsh environment to counteract vibration, and heat cycling”.

This may be of interest : http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic42967.html

The shift motor isn’t coded to the ECU so it’s just plug-n-play. You may want to perform the manual calibration though :

Sorry about the timing but I sold a used '03 one for £160 on eBay a couple of weeks ago that was working fine.

They are available from UK breakers for about £175-£200, though you have to do a bit of phoning around.

There are 2 types. The earlier 3-hole ones are rarer and I think fit the 02-06 cars, and I think the later 4-hole ones also fit disco's, sports etc. though could be corrected on that. Current:
- 2017 L405 3.0 V6 Autobiography
Sold:
- 2013 L405 4.4 TDV8 Vogue
- 2004 L322 4.4 Vogue (BRC LPG)
- 2002 L322 4.4 HSE (having fixed timing chain guides)
- 2000 P38 4.6 Vogue (BRC LPG)
- 1981 2-door In-Vogue
- 1980 Ex-Army SIII LWB
- 1976 SIII LWB
- 1968 SIIA
Stripped for parts:
- 2003 L322 4.4 Vogue

Many Thanks for all of the information. It is good to know that I don’t have to Code the motor to ECU.

I found the link to the previous Faulty Stepper Motor supplied by 4x4LRO to be of interest, and looks like the customer received a good level of customer Service, all-be-it only one example, but this still raises the question as to why did it fail with only 12 Months of use?......and no response on the so called “best” durable rugged design using alternative sensing technology for their potentiometer?. So Inguess the verdict still out on this one.

Has anyone out there had any experience (good or bad) with the aftermarket Brit variant supplied by various LR parts distributors in the UK?. At £820 this is nearly a 3rd of the cost of genuine LR at £2.2k inc Vat.
