Could be low battery throwing up a fault but then turning on and off would go against that logic as takes some power to turn it on.

Sound like it could be either a split top hose easy to check if you search on here, or if you are unlucky will be a split inlet manifold. If it's not the hose then you can check the manifold by spraying soapy water on it. One will be a cheap fix the manifold more like £800 ish. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue |

Check intercooler hose for splits.
