Side steps

Greetings all,

I fitted the deployable side steps at the weekend, which was fairly straightforward once I'd figured out how to remove the interior trim without damaging it and clearing 7 years of crud out of the chassis bolt holes.

They work when you unlock and lock the car, or when you open a door, however nothing seems to happen when I press the new button which was fitted by the sunroof control. The instructions were for a <MY10 so I'm wondering if the sequence they showed in the instructions (ignition, hold 1 second, ignition off hold 5 seconds) is different for >MY10, which mine is?

Also, is it permissible to jack from the chassis rails now that the jacking points are obscured by the steps? Obviously with appropriately jack...

Cheers __

Hi there,

I had mine fitted by the dealer before I collected the car last week. Likewise, I haven't managed to get the roof access working via the roof button yet. However, with regards to using the Jack, the manual states the boards should be removed first by undoing the 4 alan bolts using the key supplied with the kit.

Regards

Mike

you're not the only one that has had problems with the roof button, mine doesnt seem to do what it says in the manual..

as for jacking, you remove the step runners and jack up on the jacking points or leave the steps on and jack each wheel from the front and rear.. ... - .- -.

I e had limited success with this set of instructions. By limited I mean I managed to get one step to lock out but not the other.

Sitting in the car
1. Press the unlock button on dash to make the steps come out.
2. Whilst they are out press and hold the overhead button and start the car.

I've been out to the car again and had another look at the manual. I managed to put them into roof access mode and switch them off and back on again. Progress Very Happy

The button doesn't activate the steps.

It locks the steps in the position they are in.

So if you open both doors so the steps deploy press the button until the light comes on then they stay out until the button is pressed until the light goes off. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

To get into roof access, turned ignition on to first stage, no engine start, then pressed the roof button for 3 secs. Mistake I was making was pressing roof button too soon.

Lock position was turn on ignition while holding the roof button and watch for the flashes. Do you have the instructions? If not I can copy the page and post.

@Roadking

I'll give that a try.

I don't have the instructions so a copy would be most appreciated.

Many thanks.

Manual as requested. I tried the lock out this morning and when switching ignition on I didn't need to actually start the engine. Just first stage. Also, wait a bit when you get in before you start the switching. Let the car settle for a minute.

Mike

Manual pictures in gallery. Haven't worked out how to post photos yet. Sad
