Thank you buddy for the comprehensive feedback. It is definitely the 100k mental block that I need to convince myself of. I have heard rave reviews of 4.4 engines so I guess that is the one to go for. Plus, in 2 years time when I look to sell, the 3.6 would have become quite an old engine. I am moving on from an X5 and definitely looking forward to the luxury claims of driving a FFRR |

Mine is just about to hit 207k - it's a 4.2 supercharged so not the same, but generally 100k miles is nothing to these cars. |

As stated above. I don't own one but from what I've read, the 4.4 tdv8 model has a better motor, gearbox and electrics. It must be good as I think my 3.6 is very nice. ______________________________

Agreed that 4.4 TDV8 is better than 3.6 to drive, and in general I'd say a high mileage younger car is a better bet than a lower mileage older one. Older cars might also be pre-Euro 5, and might incur higher charges in London?

...and have a read of the 'buyer's experience' think it's in the wiki. No need to be worried just be thorough, check every single thing functions. Check the rear arches too. Getting a garage to check is tricky I tried that and got an RAC. Was pricey and not ideal as they don't know L322 specifics. Indy garages I found reluctant to to pre-purchase checks from a liability POV. Selling dealers will be resistant to an Indy check. Which is why AA/RAC do them on site. Ideally you'd get it up on a ramp whatever the method.

Gonna just double up on the previous advice - better a high miler that has cruised motorways for 20,000 miles per year than a "low" miler which sits in traffic queues in town or even worse, only pops down the road and never gets warm - engine condensation issues and wear and tear on components far more likely on a low miler than a high one.

I was in the same boat a couple of weeks ago. Low miles 3.6 or higher miles on a 4.4, I found 2 good ones and drove both. I took the 4.4, I admit it has 80k not 100k, but if just felt like a different car when setting off, plus the new layout inside . Full service history up to 70k, so had engine, gear box and diff oils changed, just to be sure. If all stay well ish, I will not be going back to anything else. |

At 8,000 miles a year I would look for a petrol SC.
