Brake Caliper Question

I've just replaced the rear brake caliper on my car...

The rubber boot in on the caliper for the slide pins... is this meant to move? If I pull the carrier too far out on the caliper the boot comes out as well.. I don't think this is normal?

It's a brand new Eurospares caliper, and i've re used my old slide pins and just cleaned them up, but I'm guessing some sort of assembly grease has been used to get the boots into the caliper and it's slippery.

It's on for now, and I can't see it coming out as there is minimal movement on the caliper, but is this something to be worried about or will it sort itself out?

Thanks in advance, never had this happen before!

I think if there are no pads in the caliper, then the range of movement that the caliper can go through is more than what the slider boot can stretch to, and so it can pull off when you're testing the sliding.

With the pads fitted, then the boots attach to the caliper and the bracket. They should just be able to be slid over the ridges on each side to hold them. V8 or else ...

How do you think they got them on in the first place Wink

They shouldn't come off in normal operation but worth greasing up before reassembly. Ed

nothing to worry about mate.. alot of the time the slider pins are the culprit which when seized cause more damage heating everything up causing the rubber seals to deteriorate. Always use a silicone based grease for the pins. Seen some folk using copper grease which is blasphemy as the rubber boots swell ans give up. Current:
