One of my offspring has aquired a 32 year old Castleton caravan, which needs some renovation, which we intend to do ourselves.
The body of the van is made up of grp and aluminium, what paint can we use for both surfaces, bearing in mind we want to brush and roller it on.
We're not after a showroom finish, just something presentable

Tekaloid coach paint is brilliant, but only if you use the proper Tekaloid undercoat.
It is good for brush application and gives an excellent finish, but not sure about using a roller? G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

whatever product you use, the finish will only be reflected in the preparation you make..

OK, being brutally frank your options with a brush or a roller are limited to slow drying paint which means much more time for dust and dirt particles to settle in it, especially the roof but also the sides on a windy day. Plus any bits of fur from the dog passing by etc, you know the score.

Any synthetic paint (including coachwork paint) is slower drying than the cellulose based or Acrylic paints. Unless you have proper breathing gear you should avoid 2K Acrylic anyway. The hardener is isocyanate based and it's no idle coincidence that sounds like the word cyanide.

Personally, if it were me, I would spray it with cellulose after using a blocking (bar coat) primer. Rent a spray gun and compressor for the day. Not only will it be much quicker it will look loads better. The other alternative would be to try and find a place under cover to paint it with a roller and coachwork paint.

Paint full of dirt is hardly presentable Stan, of course it depends on personal views but if it ends up being as bad as it started then why bother at all?

Just to let you know chaps, we've painted the van and it looks ok, not showroom, but ok.
You can see a few roller marks, but it covered ok.
We've put the trim back on the van, new tyres and sky lights and if I'm.honest it's good.
Just the interior to sort next.
Got a lot more character than our new Lunar Delta, but how caravan building has come on in 30 years.
And there's money to be made from this caravan restoration lark, we've doubled our outlay already
