Fuel Pump 4.4 V8 Petrol

I have a 2003 L322 with a petrol 4.4 v8. Last year the fuel pump packed in with no warning (it's done 160k so I thought that was quite reasonable!)

I replaced it & the fuel filter (brand new ones) and within a few weeks the new pump was starting to make a whining noise which got louder over the following weeks. With this kind of noise usually being a symptom of the pump about to fail I thought I'd just got unlucky with a bad pump. The supplier replaced the pump without any problems and once the replacement was fitted it was fine for a couple of weeks then the whine is back louder than ever! It's louder than the engine & the air suspension pump combined!

The pump wasn't the most expensive available at £100 so am I just buying a crap part or would there be something else causing them to whine?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated

Cheers

James

I had the same noise after I fired a cheap pump. It's still working a year later though. The noise is louder as the fuel level falls. When the tank is full there is no noise. I just decided to live with it and turn the music up Wink

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll change it out for a better quality one. Any recommendations for a source for just the pump on it's own rather than the whole assembly?

I have now had the same problem (with noise from the replacement pump) twice. 1st time round I replaced just the pump with cheapest from Eurocarparts & 2nd time round whole assembly (incl pump) cheapest from Eurocarparts

both started getting very noisy after few weeks

unsure of the manufacturer (of above) but assuming not Bosch... so I will buy the Bosch BMW part and let everyone know if the noise goes
