Rear lower door seal retaining strip failure

The rear lower door seal retaining strip stopped holding the lower door seal in place and fell off.

Online UK suppliers indicated a cost of $50 AUD incl postage. I assume local dealers would be more. So I bought Xmas tree button clips for about $1 each. I had to trip the button head and the length of the stork so the clip fitted into the groove where the genuine part sits. Here are some pics. I hope this info is useful.

Ta Joe. I would have preferred the genuine part, but it's probably just as effective and is a mod that doesn't look out of place. It's not a thing that anyone would look at. So I'm pretty happy with it. ______________________________

Great solution, I have the same problem on mine. Guess I'll be ordering those Christmas tree clips

Great fix. Do you have any idea what size the button clips are as the partcode looks like an aus one. Need to order some for myself to do this! Thanks Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Thanks. I measured the holes to be about 6x8 mm. The Xmas tree stalk is not the same width all round and was a little bigger maybe 7x9. But I orientated the trimmed button head to sit inside the seal's groove so that the 9mm wide part of the stalk sat in the 6mm section of the hole. The groove keeps it orientated the right way. Not that it really wants to rotate anyway. ______________________________

This looks to be a great alternative.

However, I had the same issue and was told by two JLR parts places that the rubber door seal and long clip comes as one item - which is quite pricey. But in fact they can be bought separately if you can find a good parts man to identify it for you. The hard plastic arced strip with molded clips is much more affordable as a piece on its own - but can't remember the price now as the invoice went with the old car to Chris (Quavey on here...)! Mike - MPx

As indicated above the retaining strip was about $50 incl postage to the colonies (Australia). It would be a lot cheaper over the counter in the U.K. ______________________________
