Intercooler hoses

Hi gang

Just to compound all the issues I've been having lately, I had my dash light up like Blackpool in December mid last week and reduced power etc... Managed to limp back to a garage local to me and sat outside from 7am (I was on my way to work when it happened) A quick look when they opened and told me nothing serious - Just intercooler hose. They duly replaced it for £65 including fitting and I was on my way..

Happy with that...... Until today...... On my way home from work round the lovely M25, my dash lit up again and saw plumes of nice black smoke when I tried to accelerate. Pulled over to the hard shoulder and turned the car off and on again and it seemed to reset it. I took it slowly and got home ok with no further issues.

On inspection in my drive it appears I now have a tear in the other intercooler hose (this time the left one as you look from the front)

Not actually a big problem as i suspect it will be fairly cheap and easy to fit but is it usual for both to go (or one to follow the other soon afterwards). Are they something that should be done in pairs..?

I guess my bigger question would be could there be anything more sinister causing them to go that I should be aware of.?

Thanks again folks as always... Ash

It is generally the right one which goes, that said when I did mine on the 3,6 I did them both. There are a couple at the bottom of the inter cooler too and some short ones near the turbo. The hoses at the bottom of the inter cooler are pretty easy the ones by the turbos tend to not ever get done as they are a lot more work and I can only remember 1 story of these going pop on here.

Do the other one, leave the bottom ones and do them when they go. Carry a roll of the Harris hose tape in the boot.👍🏻 I would hazzard a guess it's just about the right time for them to go..... wouldn't worry too unduly. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Same issue when replacing a single turbo. If one has gone, the other is likely not far behind... Big Cry

that sounds a tad more expensive than my hose issues

Thanks both - As long as its not likely to be something more causing them to go - I'll put it down to age so it makes sense for the other to go if the first one has.

Finger crossed it will all be fine when I get it replaced.

Cheers Ash

Thanks all for the info.

One more question if I may - I had a quick look and it seems its only a hose held on with jubilee clips..??

If this is correct and I don't need to do anything else, I think I should order it up and fit it myself. Just not sure if I would need anything else (oil top up, dismantle half an engine to get to it etc etc..)

could you let me know if it is as simple as undo old, remove, push on new and tighten clips.?

Thanks Ash

I had a silicone hose pack - it arrived with 6 hoses, but I only ever fitted the top 2 as they were easy - never got around to the rest ......

2 big for top
2 big for bottom
2 small for turbo. 4 easy to fit, 2 small ones are for by the turbo and are more harder...... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
