Mysterious *clunk* when braking...

Just had a full 10 year service and the brakes and suspension done on my TDV8. It then passed its MOT with flying colours..however, for some months before I have had a clunk when coming on/off the brakes at lowish speed...it seems to disappear only when the weather is dry.. but even after all this work it remains a fixture and is driving me up the wall..no one seems to be able to identify what it is. Any pointers anyone please?

She had two new rear dampers and a ball joint. They said they could find nothing loose or amiss other than that..and to be fair, neither could the MOT guy!

I had the same 'clunk' on mine. Diagnosed as a front drop link. Had both replaced and she's now as quiet as a 3.6V8 diesel mouse could ever be Very Happy

Got to admit that it sounds / feels like the issue is at the rear..but I have been wrong about such things before!

I have had this, "clunk when braking" twice on my car now, both times it has been the lower rear hub bushes.

See this thread for more details http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic435.html 03 4.4 V8 petrol / lpg. 1st of many hopefully. I love my Rangie

Are the caliper bolts done up correctly. If it's clunking when braking, notably when changing direction it could be that. Ed

Well the noise has disapoeared again niw the weather has dried up! Will try spraying the bushes and see if that makes a difference. Calipers were all checked by the garage.

Thank you fir the pointers so far!

I had the same noise on mine for 6 months, it was the lower arm at the front, but the one towards the rear.
It's a PITA to change but once you've done it, you'll kick yourself and probably realise there is an easier way (as I did)

I changed the arm and the balljoint (they come as seperate parts) and the noise stopped!
