Sorry to hear!

Usual method is they use a repeater to pick up a signal from your keys. If your keys are near your front door they can hold the repeater against your door or window.

Sorry to hear your news but glad that they think they have located it. Did in control wake you up to say it had been stolen and if so how did they know it was not you driving. Not sure about them refusing to tell you where it was, he who pays the piper calls the tune.
I had also seen a clip of scrotes holding a receiver against the house and we have changed where we keep the keys. letters not necessarily in the right order

That sounds about right.
Both keys were in our bedroom but near a window.
The tracker people have told me that they got a "tamper" message when the car was about 10 mins from my home. I assume that's because the key fob was not present.
They tell me that the tracker is no longer working (been disabled?) but they may be able to do some sort of GSM triangulation once they have the necessary data protection permissions from me and the local plod.
Sadly, I suspect my beloved car is gone for good. If it ain't broken, fix it till it is.

Presumably the tamper is them disconnecting the tracker, how can it be that easy? letters not necessarily in the right order

OP Sorry your car has been stolen . Can we presume from this that the location of the standard tracker is out in the open ?
Did they follow you home ?

ah Censored ....

As long as you and anyone with you are safe then that's all that matters. Cars can be replaced lives cannot sadly.

Be interested to hear the outcome.

Gonna hide my keys now so thanks for the info! all smug in my new plug!

If you put your keys in a tin or metal box it acts as a faraday cage and should stop the "key repeater" thefts . Still trying to think of a solution when you have the key in your pocket . My Yamaha tmax key has a on / off button on the fob so as you walk away you can switch the fob off , something for the next model !!!

Could they not have disabled the vehicle remotely when they realised it was stolen and knew where it was. My very basic tracker has an option to cut fuel supply etc which at least stops them getting too far.

@CUE99T

Very true. It could have been a lot worse.

@ Charlyfarly

I hope this resolves itself and doesn't cause too much aggro. At least you're able to tell us the story rather than us read about something horrific in the newspapers. Thumbs Up

regards

John
