L405 HSE V6 Supercharged performance

My 2011 L322 SC has been a dream. No problems, beautifully maintained but I have been eyeing the L405's and have seen
2, a 2015 blk/blk HSE V6 with 25k miles for $70k US and a 2015 SC with 12k miles for $84k. The HSE is from a dealer so I would get extra warranty and the SC is from an independent so would have warranty until 2019. The problem is the performance. I read 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds for the V6. Are all V6 Owners happy with their cars?? Thx!

Not many 3.0 petrol drivers here in the UK, the engine hasn't been available that long and we don't buy many petrols anyway. Looking at the specs, the lack of torque would be a concern. Try rangerovers.net

+1, a lot of my friends and family drive RR's and none of them own a V6 Petrol - never even seen 1 or heard of one being sold. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

I think I can answer this for you.... I asked this very same question on here just the other day but didn't get a single reply from anyone. I suspect this is largely because virtually no one here in the UK, actually owns a Supercharged V6 Petrol.

I also searched high and low online for reviews and found absolutely nothing on this engine in FFRR form - I guess you also investigated this too.

I currently have a 2018MY Range Rover Autobiography on order, so I needed to know quite quickly which engine to go for, particularly as this is not a cheap car and I don't want to get the order wrong.

In recent years, I have only ever bought petrol cars, and still own a 2007MY N/A V8 4.4 Vogue, which I love and is now used primarily for transporting our two Pyrenean Mountain Dogs. So the thought of moving to a diesel car makes me quite nervous.

I was torn between the 3.0 V6 Diesel and the 3.0 V6 Supercharged Petrol, so what do I do....... Well I looked on Autotrader and found that there were just two supercharged petrol cars available for sale in the whole country, luckily one of these was with a dealer only 30 miles away, so I arranged a test drive and went on this yesterday.

So how was the 3.0 V6 Petrol Supercharged..... Well in short, don't buy one!

It wasn't too bad at low speeds on local roads but when we got on the motorway and came to a slight incline, I put my foot down and NOTHING! Just noise - It felt like the car was revving but no power (in fact no movement at all really - Have you ever driven a car with a clutch that's slipping?).

I always said I'd never buy another diesel car but this 3.0 Supercharged Petrol just didn't have the torque to pick up the pace while the car was on the go - There's always the 5.0 litre I hear you say, but for me that's not an option either. I drove an older version a few years ago and under acceleration it seems to just scream! Which personally I didn't like.

So, I've decided to stick with my original spec in terms of engine choice, going for the 3.0 V6 diesel. This seems to be the best compromise in terms of quiet refinement and the necessary torque while on the move.

I can only tell you what I thought based on my experience...... Which I'll conclude by saying, despite being a massive lover of petrol engines, I would avoid this one like the plague!

That says it all! Thats what I have heard here as well and there are a ton of the V6 Petrols for sale. I'll hold
onto my 2011 until the right deal comes along. Thank again for your feedback!!

Hmm. The V6 actually has slightly more torque and at lower rpm than the 4.4 V8 in the L322 that you like so much. It's also in a car that's +350kg lighter and has 8 gears instead of 6.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear - The 2007 L322 4.4V8 Petrol is only used for transporting our dogs locally, it doesn't journey on to motorways nor travel at any great speed.

In my opinion, for local journeys this car is hard to beat. It is very quiet, runs very smoothly on it's original 19 inch rims and sounds lovely - Maybe it's all the noise that Supercharger creates, that makes you think you should be moving faster.

Also, more gears doesn't always make for a better drive - I think if you ask many Rolls Royce Phantom owners, they'll tell you that they preferred the original ZF 6 Speed to the later ZF 8 Speed which changes more often than it needs to.

Also, please bear in mind that the L322 is only worth about one tenth of the cost - Personally, I expected much better from the 3.0V6 Supercharged.

Finally, I'm choosing an additional Range Rover based on the options available - A V8 4.4 N/A Petrol is not an option, so it's kind of irrelevant to this topic.

If there was one available, I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

Just one more point - I notice that the above shows a chart displaying statistics from a 2005 4.4 HSE V8 FFRR. While I can't say for sure and will be happy to be corrected, didn't the 2007MY 4.4 V8 Petrol I own, change from a BMW to a Jaguar engine, or was that just on the Supercharged? And if so, won't that chart then be inaccurate?

Yes, The Jag engined 4.4 came in with the 2006 MY and the facelift. Previous was the old BMW unit. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

It's the Jaguar engine in the chart - 4394cc. The BMW engine is 4398cc.

I'm not trying to pick holes or argue. Just interesting how hard stats and actually driving the thing can give different impressions.
