Jack which can lift the full fat wheel off the ground

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a bottle jack or car jack which can lift high enough for the full fat to get the wheel off the ground ?

i end up using the stock jack which is a pain, and mine is showing its wear as my normal jack just dont get the wheels high enough to remove them.

any recommendations be helpful.

thanks

Where do you stash this jack when not in use, or, thinking about it, where's the standard jack. Just realised I haven't found one yet in my motor Rolling Eyes

Next to the spare wheel there's a rubber holder that holds the jack. I've managed to get mine to hold my bottle jack in situ.. as long as you mind and rotate the jack every now and again it's fine

Ah, should the original be horizontal, in front of the spare wheel ? Would it have been a scissor jack. Noticed an empty "gap" but it's not very high. Thinking about it, looks scissor jack shape.

Yes original is scissor jack in straps in front of the spare wheel. (behind it looking from the back). It was/is a dangerous load of carp. John

I'm going to get a Merc bottle jack. I don't trust the scissor jack that's supplied and my 3 tonne trolley was bought purely fo the FFRR, and I leave that at home !! Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Why do 3 ton trolley jack weigh 3 tons Rolling Eyes

I've got a 2.5 ton Ally / steel hybrid jack... a lot lighter than an all steel construction jobby... But for emergancy use only then a Mercedes Sprinter bottle jack is the way to go!! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

In emergency I like a jack from the AA especially on the hard shoulder

Merc sprinter as mentioned and an Iveco Daily jack will do the job.

When I bought my D4, I simply got a decent 3t bottle jack, and got a solid, square piece of wood to use as a base plate Thumbs Up Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: http://bit.ly/22l8YHh

A lot of 3-5 ton bottle jacks are only single piston lift, which is not sufficient to cope with the suspension travel, so you really need to be looking for a 3 ton + jack with a double lift even if you stand it on a block of wood you still have to allow for the amount of suspension travel. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999
