Apple Mac book pro help ?

Hi. Any MBP 17'' expert here ? Mine went in kaput mode today. Very oddly it works with the external display but when I unplug the display the MBP screen freeze. Without a display plugged in It will boot, let me log in then freeze.
The motherboard was replaced just over a year ago, then the batt 2 weeks ago. it has a 1t SSD and a 2t harddrive. I have been trying to keep it running as they do not make 17 anymore. I tried PRam and SMS etc. Not found of the newer one so would really love to fix it. Help guys. (Y) l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

HI

Did you get any pixellation before it went bang? If so could be the GPU card. I've heard of these working on external screens whilst the 'home' screen chips are done for. Cant be certain but might be worth a bit of googling.

Similar thing happened to my i5 mac. In my case it was a 10 minute blast in the oven to soften the solders and reinserted the card. 12 months later still flying! Not sure if this solution still works for a MBP. 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

Might be worth running a program called DiskWarrior (by Alsoft). If it is software related this is the program to sort it!

Presume you're running a recent version of OS and have tried repairing disk permissions etc?

Good luck.

My first suggestion would be: use an external monitor and external HD to get everything off it while you can. Hardware is fixable, but data recovery is long, expensive and not always successful. Good luck.

Which model MPB? Late 2010/some 2011s have GPU issues, although when mine went it just wouldn't boot with or without an external monitor. Apple still has a free repair programme back to (I think) early 2011s.

Not sure if this will help but both my MBP 13 and 15 will not boot if there are devices plugged into the USB ports.

Solution is to unplug everything except power and reboot so when you see the Apple at startup, plug your USB devices back in.
