Not much help but the 17" pro is the only duff Mac I have had in 20 years , motherboards and hard drives seem to always go pop too soon . 2008 MY Supercharged

My first suggestion would be: use an external monitor and external HD to get everything off it while you can. Hardware is fixable, but data recovery is long, expensive and not always successful. Good luck. |

Which model MPB? Late 2010/some 2011s have GPU issues, although when mine went it just wouldn't boot with or without an external monitor. Apple still has a free repair programme back to (I think) early 2011s. |

Not sure if this will help but both my MBP 13 and 15 will not boot if there are devices plugged into the USB ports.
