I always replace in pairs across each axle and keep the best of whats left as the spare.

Agree generally with the above, its recommended, if your part worn and remaining good front tyre have the same tread depth then it won't be an issue as such, however its best to replace the pair, i would if i was off on a european trip.

Tread on the part worn almost identical to what I will be replacing so seems a £££ tempting option to buy one rather than two tyres.

Hi, sorry, but always replace the 4 tyres at the same time on a permanent 4WD(unless you dont mind replacing center diff/diffs), 2 by 2 are ok for 2WD only. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

I've seen this mentioned a good few times, but I can't see the reasoning behind it. The whole point of a diff is to allow differential speeds at the output shafts, hence the name, so why would the very small speed differences caused by new over part worn tyres cause a problem? i bought a land rover used approved last May and they fitted two new tyres to compliment the other 6mm ones on the FF...if LR think that a difference of two mm is ok then i can't see a problem with just replacing two tyres.
