Change 1 tyre or pair of tyres?

New to the world of RR and thought I had better check.

I have a large bulge on the side wall of one front tyre.

Do I buy just one tyre or do I have to buy a pair to keep things even?

I do have a part worn in the boot so I could stick that on the front and a new one on he boot I guess.

Doing. 1,000 mile trip around Europe at the end of the month so don't want problems during that trip.

All comments welcome

I always replace in pairs across each axle and keep the best of whats left as the spare.

Enjoy your trip Thumbs Up

Agree generally with the above, its recommended, if your part worn and remaining good front tyre have the same tread depth then it won't be an issue as such, however its best to replace the pair, i would if i was off on a european trip.

If you are going to france - see the post in off topic about the new Crit air stickers which are needed in some french cities now.

if you haven't already get on it today and you will get the email with the temp certificate you can use while you wait for the real one to arrive. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Tread on the part worn almost identical to what I will be replacing so seems a £££ tempting option to buy one rather than two tyres.

Will check out the French thread if I find it. The plan is to belt through France to Italy and then back up somewhere further east but not decided where yet.

Challenge is the wife doesn't like mountains or driving but want to see them Alps without flying!!

Any boat trips to Chamonix?

sounds like a good trip.

thread is here applies to petrol and diesel cars tho, its £4 for the sticker and the fine is much worse than that.

Hi, sorry, but always replace the 4 tyres at the same time on a permanent 4WD(unless you dont mind replacing center diff/diffs), 2 by 2 are ok for 2WD only. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

I've seen this mentioned a good few times, but I can't see the reasoning behind it. The whole point of a diff is to allow differential speeds at the output shafts, hence the name, so why would the very small speed differences caused by new over part worn tyres cause a problem? Drives:

i bought a land rover used approved last May and they fitted two new tyres to compliment the other 6mm ones on the FF...if LR think that a difference of two mm is ok then i can't see a problem with just replacing two tyres.
in an ideal world where all men are wealthy then of course replace all four tyres.. ... - .- -.
