Link to Google Drive Images ?

On a "normal" web page I can display a public file from my Google Drive using this code:

<img src ="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B5al230KXbSyUVlUdnprbW5lbG8">

Have tried a few alternatives but either get the link, blank or "<img>"

Is there an equivalent syntax for the forum ?

(note: had to disable html to get the above link to show Wink ) .

You need to find the Google Drive URL for the image which ends in its extension, like .jpg, .png, .gif etc

The link you've provided is the "force download" link which won't ever embed correctly as an image anyway.

I've given up trying to post photos anywhere from Google Photos. I used to use Picasa for photo hosting but since Google dropped it, I haven't worked out a satisfactory way to post. The image links no longer end in .jpg

I'm moving all my photos to Flickr but I'm concerned that all my older posts in various fora might end up with broken links so I can't delete my Picasa albums yet. Ron B. VK2OTC

Is it just the way the forum handles this type of link ? .

Not sure if it's just this forum, Google photos is a PITA will all the forums I frequent.

Dropbox is (was) better until they did away with the PUBLIC folder.

Photobucket works well with forums but the entire site is made up of adverts and trackers. Fine if you can live with that but I can't.

The best one at the moment is Onedrive although I had to set the images folder to be un-encrypted so the forum can actually see the file. If you're an Office 365 subscriber you also get 1TB of free storage which is a bonus.

Something else you might want to consider is how Google use your data. I used GD for a while until I started getting strange adverts and marketing emails which could only have been based on the GD content. They are clearly data mining on it so encryption is essential IMO.

surely the easiest solution would be to upload a pic from your hard drive to the forum server ...that way it will always be visible here despite whatever happens to flickr or any other off site storage... ... - .- -.

If you can't get a .jpg .png etc link out of Google Drive then the forum won't embed it. There is no reason for Google to have done it like that, except to be awkward and throw their weight around.

As Stan says the forum gallery space is there to use, it's free and fully integrated into the forum.

At the moment Photobucket doesn't use HTTPS so it will start getting flagged as an unsafe site by Google. Ron B. VK2OTC

@ p38arover

Best one can get from that approach for the forum is a direct clickable link to the image:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/5mD1rS33...0uVi3FUqTA

As Martin says, this forum needs an image extension in order for it to work.

I have noticed that Google Groups generates images with an extension if you post or link images there, but it is a bit long winded to do the upload there then link back to here! It is probably also possible to do this through Google Sites, but with the same caveat.

Good find though, labnol has some good stuff for google coding Smile .
