Just received the following from Shell & it appears they & JLR have launched the Worlds first in car payment system where you can now pay for Shell fuel from inside the car using Apple Pay or PayPal from the Infotainment.

Fine if you like paying way too much for fuel.

The difference is less pronounced for me locally as only 6p per litre difference between Shell & Tesco's & i collect Avios so a bonus there (usually extra points promotions every few weeks). Whether i'll ever use this worlds first feature is debatable, but nice to see something novel turning up on our cars. |

No, we've had quite a few "Emperor's New Clothes" discussions of late.

I dont like the 'selected service stations' comment. That usually means for the first year or so it will only be available in the south-east, Birmingham and parts of Manchester. You will just have to put up with the short walk to the back of the que where you are behind at least three people who are doing their weekly shop, the person who cant make up their minds which coffin nails they want and the one who buys five scratch cards then holds up the line with a coin in his hands to see if they have won! Personally I cant wait for the visa implants where you just wave your hand over the front of the pump. QUID FACIUM TIBI

I'm out of the country on business this week but my wife and son used the in-car payment method last night and said it worked really well. And that's at a small village Shell station (Singleton lights w8pmc). I then received an email with an invoice attached. Payment was via apple pay and we set up the account before leaving home. It's basically an alternative interface with the Shell fill up and go system. |
