Has anyone got any experience of Lifeshine?

Dealer called me today to let me know my car will be ready for collection from March 1st but also wanted to promote the last few extras, including an Autoglym product application called Lifeshine - for £499!!

Would be good to know of any experiences good or bad and whether its worth the cash or better to take a trip to the local car accessory shop and buy appropriate products -

I thought it was a waste of time - I asked my dealer not to do it, then when I turned up to collect the car, it had been done and was on the bill. Fortunately I'd asked them not to do it by email.

It seems to be basically a valet, which IMHO they should be doing anyway.......

Having said that, I have nothing scientific to compare to, but the car doesn't seem any shinier or easier to clean than my last one....

I'm not a particular fan of AutoGlym products, but they include a bag full - and the bag was a good fit for the recess in the boot

Unless you're going to be washing the car yourself it is a waste of time and money. Nothing will protect the paint against a gritty sponge or the harsh chemicals which the local car wash uses.

If you are cleaning it yourself then you probably don't need it anyway. I have tried loads of supposed protectors and they are mostly snake oil.

The only one which seems to be getting decent reviews at present is GYEON - Q2 Mohs. This would seem to enable a true touchless wash in as much as you cover teh car in foam, let is soften the dirt, pressure wash it off and then rinse with a plain hose. The sheeting of the water at low pressure is 99% as good as drying the car.

Various opinions but general consensus (and IMHO) is it's overpriced for what it is (as all new car coatings are), doesn't last more than a few months and is also rarely applied correctly by the "car wash boys" at the dealership.

I've been offered equivalents a few times and always declined as I know I can do a better job myself at a fraction of the cost.

Any brand new car should look nice and shiny when you collect it anyway.

I had it included by "stealth" when I bought my XKR last year although they discounted the car by £500 on the invoice and then added it back in.

As Rob99 said it's rarely applied correctly and not really worth paying out for. I have just had the Jag professionally detailed and that really does make a difference so I would suggest hunt around for someone local to you with a good reputation and give them the dosh to do it properly! These guys take great pride in their work unlike the junior car cleaner at the stealer

I've always had Lifeshine on my LR cars. Two reasons; firstly, the salesman gets the commission so is grateful and cuts you more in elsewhere, such as free mats, LR experience and on going good relationship, which matters when you want first dibs on a new model. Secondly, I've found it works really well. I rarely clean my cars as I no longer have the time or space to do it properly, but when I do they come up beautifully. I also use the Lifeshine care kit they give you as part of the deal. On a car which costs north of £70k, why would you quibble over a few hundred quid? Different story on a £10k Kia granted.

I e not heard of this particular product, but adding so called paint and upholstery protections is an old dealer game. They usually have huge profits margins on them. If you think your car would benefit, I would suggest having a trusted detailer apply them. I would suspect you will get a better job for a lot less money.

I've had it (given free on a monthly incentive) and your car looks shiny when you pick it up but don't be fooled that it's something it isn't. Is it worth it? Absolutely categorically not. Save your money and buy some gtechniq nano stuff that works rather well.

Finally and it's not about LR but someone I know who has a valeting business and mentioned that he was paid a tiny fraction of the price to valet premium brand cars with this type of product and claims the dealers make 900% margin.

Never used Lifeshine but had others in the long & distant past. Personally as others have said, these protections are rarely correctly applied as often done by the in dealer cleaners who in most locations could not even be called valeters.

I'd save the money & either get a proper new car prep from a reputable firm locally (search the various forums for suggestions) which will be 10x better & cheaper & then get a 6 monthly or annual treatment from the same firm/person for the time you keep the car.

I had a great guy come to our house every 3weeks & work on both our cars for a full day for £80 & that included exterior polish/treatment & the interiors. It's now 3yrs old & when worked on looks as good as new.

When I got my current car (ex demo) it had been treated with 'Ceramic Coat'. It did seem to be easier to wash dirt off for maybe 18 months. I'm not sure I would spend much on that sort of thing though, none of my other cars have had anything like it. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I can not recommend Gtechniq enough, I paid £800 to have the crystal serum coating to all paintwork and alloys, exo coating to all paintwork and the hydroponic coating to the mirrors and glass roof (all other glass has it from factory)
The finish is awesome, cleans is so easy (as long as you do it right!) and also has amazing beading I mean it is up there in the beading porn rankings!! Also comes with a 5 year warranty providing you use an official detailer, they even inspect and rectify every year for you FOC. some really useful thoughts there - on balance it doesn't look worth it from the dealer but I'm not surprised they're pushing it hard if they're on the v high margins as Basil Fawlty suggests.
The last minute pre delivery nibbling has started in earnest by the after sales department as they're pushing the insurance products for tyre and wheel damage, the lifeshine finish along with other options that are dealer fit such as side steps, boot liners mud flaps etc, including pushing items already included on my car spec I hope - left hand not talking to right hand at the dealer me thinks.

Intuition says that it will be better to get a decent job done on the finish independently, I'll have a scout around.

Not sure if this should be subject to a fresh post but whats the Consensus of opinion on most suitable mobile phone for the RR? - I'm using a Nokia Windows phone currently, but want to get the most out of the car and technology - on my 08 car the phone connection/features are hit and miss at best.
