I've looked into this also but I don't think it's possible but are you sure you have the FMH lights enabled?
I've found that if the function is switched off and you flash the lights with the ignition off the headlights stay on for 40 seconds, almost like a manual FMH lights function, but only with the headlights I think, but with the function enabled I've managed to get any or all lights to come on automatically.
But for those who can't seen to get this to work it's worth noting, if you have the function switched on and you switch your lights off before stopping the engine the FMH lights don't work, you must switch off the engine first, then the lights, this then brings on the whatever FMH lights you have set to come on.
I like this little function because if I don't actually need my FMH lights to come on after I've parked I just switch the lights off before the ignition and it stops people telling me I've left my lights on.......
But with the FMH lights enabled I've lost the flashing the lights to get them to stay on for 40 seconds function.
That's what makes me wonder if your FMH function is actually enabled.
I'm not sure what happens using the lights in the auto position, I never use it, I always just switch my lights on manually, day and night.
