4.4 TDV8

I have had a hairline crack diagnosed on the manifold. This is causing "restricted performance" to be activated.

Vehicle is 8 months out of warranty so cost down to me no doubt. The manifold is on back order at Landrover till middle of May! Makes me think there may be an issue with the part.

It is a plastic part. Is there any way to temporarily cover/repair the crack whilst awaiting the new part? Running on restricted performance has also thrown up "DPF Full" so obviously won't be able to use the vehicle in the mean time.

Any ideas welcome

Open out the hairline crack (just enough to allow it to be filled) and fill it with Q-Bond...sorted permanently

I repaired a pinhole on a steel fuel tank a few years ago and it's still holding

Of course Araldite will last for a temporary repair.

Duct Tape around the thing

TBH if they are on back order it could be due to demand for the engines in new vehicles, saying that thought TDV8 engines in 3.6 form seem to run low on stock a lot thanks to the SSRR boys

If it were me and i had to stump up the bill i'd screw it and see if a metal one could be made up as it will no doubt crack again. Plastic is most certainly not fantastic for manifolds as the temps of a head are just way to much for them. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Q-bond = epoxy resin + fillers

Could be useful stuff though.

OK its Super Glue and fillers , one thing I know from 20 years of boat building the quicker it sets the quicker it falls off .I was mealy musing that as Kingpleb said gaffer tape would give a quick idea if there was a feasible home fix . 2008 MY Supercharged

The Q-Bond will work

One of the power steering cooler pipes on my Jaguar had a tiny rust spot that developed a weep (not enough to drip) and I sanded the pipe back to clean metal and applied some Q-Bond...sorted

If it can seal steel petrol tanks and oil coolers it will work on your manifold

Got a look at it and the split is right along part of a seam. To my mind that means it's a manufacturing fault. In any case, it's not in a place that can be easily temporarily repaired, especially given the pressures involved.

I spoke with LR CRC yesterday and sounds promising from their end, so had RR transported to a dealer for them to confirm diagnosis.

I agree the running on reduced performance is the cause of DPF full, hence transporter.

what was the outcome of this one? did you view the split whilst still on the vehicle without taking anything off, if so where was it? Cheers

I used this on the plastic inlet manifold on my Mercedes, when I removed the swirl flaps... it's still there and withstanding major turbo pressure, which is more than can be said for the intercooler hose....that exploded the other week
