2012 Vogue oil pump problems?

Ok was all set to pick up the car, but thought I'd phone just to make sure all was well. Its a 5 hours round trip for me. I won't mention the dealer just yet.
Anyway i was given a date to pick the car up, but after calling them, i was told it needed a new ball joint, and that LR didn't have it on the shelf, so it would be a few day's. I was then told all was good and i could pick the car up Monday, again i called to make sure all was well, only to be told that there was a slight oil leak and they wanted to change some gaskets. I was then told that the gaskets were changed but the oil leak was still present, so on further investigation the mechanic noticed a hairline crack in the oil pump, and that would need to be ordered, again not on the shelf. i'm getting very suspicious. I'm not a mechanic, but i thought the oil pump was in the sump, if so how could the mechanic see the crack? any mechanics or people in the know out there? whats your thoughts please.

Changed my mind the dealer is Saxton 4x4

Mine had a massive oil leak down the back of the engine and over the gearbox as the oil cooler was cracked. I know you said pump.... The oil cooler is in the V.... No oil in engine, as its gone into the coolant system. £1097 later all is well.

The garage who repaired mine have done another 4 since mid February.

If that is, indeed, what they mean.....

If you see it, check the oil level on the dash (no dipstick) and check the coolant has no signs of oil in it......

Thanks for the replies gent's. i have a free app on my mobile that records all calls, i listened to the call and he said a hair line crack in the top of the oil pump, he said the oil was weeping out of it, so no rapid loss of oil. I'll check the coolant to see if there's any oil in it, but how would this be done as the oil would float on top of the coolant, so just looking in the expansion tank would be no good would it?

I'm going to go over the car thoroughly before i part with my cash, any other tips on what to look for please?

Funny that, my 4.4 tdv8 2012 has just come back from a new oil cooler change, that had a slow weep on one of the fittings. It slowly filled the V up in the center of the engine, and then started pouring down the back of the engine! It looked pretty bad, but had not lost a lot of oil.
When I dropped it off, there was another one in there having the same fix..... Must be a common fault!! 2006 RR sport HSE

Sorry for the question in advance , but like i said i haven't picked the car up yet.

How do you remove the plastic cover on top of the engine, is it just pull up it off?

I can't recollect if it was on here or another forum but there was some discussion regarding Saxton's customer services and back-up; may be worth investigating and making your own mind up.

We decided to buy our 2012 TDV8 from an official LR dealership and it came with a two-year LR warranty, being less than five years old.

Do you know if the others failed for the same reason?

I called them this morning for an update, i was told its the oil pump thats cracked, They have the new one they ordered from LR. but it's a very labour intense job fitting it, i'd really like to check if a new oil pump was indeed fitted, can anyone tell me were the oil pump is on a 2012 4.4, with a pic if possible please

Just taken my 2012 4.4 TDV8 for service this morning with an oil leak in the V of the engine and oil dripping over the gearbox and exhaust. It has been getting worse over the last couple of months, but I've not had to add any oil.
They just rang to confirm an engine oil cooler (actually its a water/oil heat exchanger) is required but fortunately no water exchanged with oil Smile Only a messy external leak and some oil patches on my garage floor.
My non-JLR warranty will cover the cost Very Happy so I'm just paying for service and MOT.
Seems like the heat exchangers on cars of this vintage are now causing issues, but the cracked oil pump is very rare Sad
