Cheers for the comments folks. the police have been in touch and have requested the video footage, as my statement suggests he knew he'd hit me. They say he's committed two offences. They have written to him asking for a statement and his insurance details Fingers crossed it'll be sorted

In Australia, car parks and even petrol stations are "road related areas" so the road rules apply.

I had the police visit after someone claimed I'd reversed into them at a petrol station and then driven off.

Fortunately, I keep records and, at that time when I was still working, a diary showing where my work locations and times. I asked for the date, got out my laptop and showed I hadn't fuelled up that day. A check of my diary showed it was the night before my son's funeral and I knew I hadn't been out that day. The cops checked my vehicle (Nissan Civilian bus) and found no marks. I suggested they check the CCTV. I never heard another thing about it. Ron B. VK2OTC

I parked like Stan does once in a car park (and it was virtually empty at the time,) when I returned all down the side was a key scratch maliciously done and 800 quids worth!

I did it in a hired camper van on a public car park in Cornwall a few years ago and someone put a note under my wiper calling me a selfish pr**k ! I got a parking fine as well. Even though I had put a ticket on the van. When I appealed they said I should have put two tickets on it as I had occupied two parking spaces!!

I don't park like that any more!

I think you have to be very careful how you park and drive these days as most people tend to think Range Rover drivers lord it and look down on the hoi polloi - whilst I do acknowledge that some do, many do not.

There can be no excuse for keying a vehicle. In the old days...I'm talking the 90's here...the craze was thugs slashing hoods on convertibles. You darent leave a decent car anywhere in London during the yuppie era.

when i damaged my front i though it would cost the earth, all down for �270, which was for painting the front corner and lacquering the whole thing.

never really liked the idea of taking trim off and re-wiring whole car for any gadget whether it being speed camera detector, hands free or anything but after seeing this and having similar experiences in the past im seriously consideirng now, prob get a blackvue they seem the most popular.

this vid made me remember an incident that happened to me a few years back, parked up in the first box following a crossroads behind a mk1 escort, popped into a shop came back to car got in and as i was opening what i had bought still not having pushed engine start button i hear the escort starting think to myself hes got plenty of room to come back to get out then all of a sudden hes increasing revs but still cming towards me, he couldnt lift his foot off the clutch. try to sound horn but cars fully off so no horn then kaboom. i got out, walk up to his window hes still trying to let the clutch out and be on his way. i then open his door give him a piece of my mind he causally gets out looks at his chrome bumper and accuses me of lying and trying to rip him off. i say to him mate you got my car paint on your bumper, the dent in my bumper is the same shape as your bumper. guy was an 85 year old with arthritis i just didnt have the heart to have a go at him and told him it im off just forget about it.

not really the right thing to do i admit, if a person was crossing the road he would have crushed there legs but i just didnt have it in me to report him and get the police involved

You could... but you'll end up in the nick.... Drunk in charge of a vehicle....

The sad fact is they make the laws up to suit them selves... if it will get a good return for little paper work then they are up for it... add in a couple of insurance companies and the police tend to get bored and walk away

Oh and if your chosen car park is is gated off from the roads, and you don't hurt anyone of hit objects on purpose then there is nothing that they can do.... provided that you haven't left the gate open, and assuming you have permission to be there

If the police wanted to be snotty then they could nick you for going to your car on your drive way while over the limit... even if your just getting something out the boot Sleeping it off in the car in the pub carpark is a big no no... if you have the keys, you'll be in trouble...... Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Must admit i feel the cameras are a must as long as you can hide them enough as dont like it spoiling the car.

My understanding is that the law applies to roads and other public places. So a supermarket or pub carpark are included.

But if you pop out in the evening to get something from your car parked on your own private driveway, even though you just had a drink indoors, no offence can arise. Of course if your car is in a public place, eg on the road it would be different.

I think that the law considers any roadway / drive that has direct access to the public highway as fair game... car parks etc... so if they were miffed, they could apply that to your driveway, unless you have shut gates... And as I haven't actually herd of this happening, I wouldn't worry..... unless you have upset the local boys in blue

Car parks are a nightmare,unless your disabled,you generally cant find a parking space within 200 metres of the shops entrance. puzzles me especially at a store such as B and Q that people capable of doing diy,builders with vans ect are likely to buy heavy large bulky items,disabled people incapable of walking more than ten yards from their car are unlikely to use their store so 200 empty disabled spaces and am having to hike across a car park with my purchases.Car parks dont seem to be well designed and the parking spaces are so small even in a moderate size car you would be lucky to be able to open your door fully without touching the next vehicle.Even have bloody motor bike spaces at our local supermarket,who the bloody h#ll goes to do their weekly shop on a motor bike.Enough of my rant anyhow,hope you get sorted ,will def consider rear view cam myself now. Full fat 4.2 Sc

What puzzles me is considering the customers that they are trying to attract, Why are all their parking spaces 50% TOO SMALL for the average van

The amount of vans that are either taking up the space behind or half way out in the road never ceases to amaze me If every builder drove a Bedford Rascal.. the UK's bath tubs would all be the size of a large bucket

I made the mistake of popping in to B&Q in the Thunderbird, having parked it with the passenger wheels on the white line of the bay, I got out... to find that the other wheels were a third of the way in to the next bay Just as well as the doors are best part of 6 foot long and a foot thick... you need 3 feet just to squeeze in And that was a few years ago.. time has taken it's toll and I'd need neare the full 6 foot now  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Just got back from the insurance companies preferred repairer, who said it'l be cut back and resprayed, i told him what about a new bumper and he said the insurance company wouldn't pay out for that i'll get the estimate in a week Dave
