The highest tax band for vehicles registered before 23 March 2006 is Band K. For 2017, that means duty of £295 per year.

This is the kicker for most, the fact that irrespective what fuel/CO2 output you have from 1 Apr 17, if the car costs more than £40k then you pay an additional £310 annual premium on top of the usual tax... for the first 5 years!!

worked out that if you buy a 17 plate car then you are worse off over 5 years but actually after that it evens out so over a 10 year period the car will generate tax of less than what it would have under the old system.

I guess there is nothing fair when it comes to tax including roadtax.I have the Fullfat and my old van which I pay $285 I think each totalling £570.Bearing in mind I only do about 4000 miles with each it does not seem fair that someone can do 50,000 miles in a more efficient car and only pay £20 ,is roadtax not supposed to pay for roaduse? |

Fairest way of all, scrap the RFL and put it on fuel. Recent estimates say it would add 2 pence per litre and the Gov would be quids in.
