brake warning light reset

The brake warning light came on the other day followed by the bong check brake pads.the fronts were good but the rears low but didn't look like they had reached the wear pad. I changed them anyway but the red dash light remained. After a Google I came across a reset by putting the ignition on 10 times and off taking the key out each time.Yes it works.Am sure this has been covered but just a reminder for those who may not know anyway

Whistle As my Buddy down under says they are annoyingly one shot wonders... once the light comes on the only way to put it out is fit a new wear sensor, if it's the front pads I've got an unused sensor...I always kept a spare...and as I don't have an L322 anymore it's rather excess to requirements...p.m. me if your interested Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Surely Rangeyman is saying he didn't replace the sensor but found a way to reset the warning light anyway ??

Just to clarify am not sure why the red dash brake light came on I assumed it was a pad sensor but on inspection it wasn't. I replaced only the pads but the reset got rid of the red light.

Either the wire loop in the pad sensor broke OR there is a bad connection in the plug for the sensor.... I wonder if you have turned the system off completely? Think I'd unplug a sensor to check that the pesky light comes back on. The system is normally in one of two states...on or off, there isn't a sleep mode that I'm aware of Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

can anyone tell me if front pad wear sensor is the same as the rear apart from length? did not get rear sensor with pads but had a front one which fitted however light still on. key trick did not work nor did a reset at local garage any ideas? sent away for rear sensor anyway.

As far as I know they are the same except length, have you checked the front sensors too? I had them all wear out at the same time Shocked

It is possible to short circuit the sensor, but it will render it useless.. OK to stop the warning light while you wait for the postie.

If you cut the wire a few inches from the plug (sensor side) and joint the wires together it should put the light out Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I'm having this same issue. Red Brake light and the check brake pads on the LCD diplay. I have since changed the front and rear pads...still had the errors. Replaced front brake pad sensor wih a new Duralast sensor from autozone...still have same errors. The key to ignition 10 times did't fix it. Also tried disconnecting battery for 30 mins...the light went away...then came back after a few mins. 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

if the 'check brake pads' is coming up now and, before you changed the pads it wasnt, then you need to double check that you havent missed something ...i would even strip it all down and start again.. ... - .- -.

No the check brake pads came up first on the LCD...so I ordered new pads to change them. Before I got them and could put them on the red BRAKE came on. So the red "BRAKE" came on after the original "check brake pads"

I'm not sure which signal the sensor sends....the LCD "check brake pads" or the red "BRAKE". But all pads at 4 corners have been changed and new front sensor been fitted. Only thing I can think of it needs time to "reset" and will go off....or the rear brake pad sensor needs replaced.

My brakes are squealing a bit coming to a stop which is pretty annoying since they are new (and I added lube to the backs of the pads) 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

On the early L322's the brake check sensor was a one time use only, once it illuminated the "check brake" lamp you had to replace it to get the light to go out.

I can't imagine that LR have updated the system, they'd rather sell you a new sensor Shocked

But don't fret, the aftermarket boys have cottoned on and the "copies" are as cheap as chips (potato not silicone !!) Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

You got me thinking, D'oh!!

Just had a look at the 2006-2009 sensor and it's the same setup as the earlier cars, the sensor has a 2 pin plug..... Now for the rocket science bit.. the 2 pin plug is a thin wire loop, that goes through the plastic bit of the sensor.. as the pads wear down the sensor comes into contact with the brake disc (rotor) and snaps the wire, illuminating the dash light and the screen of Doom.

If you still have the light on and the screen of Doom is still showing a fault, then something is either up with the sensor, or the loom that connects it to the ECU.

Check that you have a closed circuit on the sensor with a multimeter, or disconnect the plug and link the car side NOT the brake with a bit of wire or paper clip. That should put out the dash lights and message. If it doesn't then you need to check that the loom hasn't been pinched or chaffed.

Good luck!! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
