6HP26 Running temperature

I am running a 2006 4.2SC US spec and curious what others are seeing for transmission temperatures.

I have done the new filter and Mercon SP fluid refill, reset the adaptions (then shortly read not too). Drove the care about 1000 miles are the transmission sorted itself out. But I've been keeping an eye on it and had some leaks from the front pan gasket, sorted that, then the drain plug started leaking, sorted that now it looks like the front seal might be leaking. Checking into it, it looks like the fluid is over filled - which I don't remember being a problem at the time of filling it up.

Anywho, just monitoring temperatures and such before draining and filling (have 4 quarts of new fluid to put in). I notice it runs around engine temp, 203-205*F(95*C). I am reading temperature w/ IID Tool. Googling '6HP26 temperature' I see some suggesting to never let the transmission exceed 95*C.

So, what's everyone else's run at?

I should mention that the transmission works fine. Only issue I have is a hard 1-2 or 2-3 shift when cold (~30-50*F).

I just got back from draining and refilling.

-drained 4 qts at 45*C
-refilled 2.5 qts with the engine off
-filled 1.5 qts with the engine on, ac on
-still dribbled out after shifting through all the gears @ 43*C

so in total I drained 4 and added 4. I expected to add a little less than 4 qts based on my observations the previous weekend.

Is that about what everyone else gets when draining and refilling the 6HP26?

My 6HP26 oil temp when hot was 97-98 deg C according to the live log on IID tool.

I got 5 qts out when I drained mine but that includes the extra that came out when I dropped the oil pan. If I get the time and the weather's OK I'll be doing a second oil change this weekend so I'll measure what comes out from just the drain plug. 2006MY 4.2 SC

It is important to NOT overfill an auto box, you are better off with it slightly under filled than overfilled, so do it exactly as the book says and don't keep trying to get more in... Thumbs Up Pete

Haylands, that was my initial concern. I went to check it the weekend prior to now and between 40-50*C it was pouring out...

Draining and refilling seems to have given me different results. This time I wrote it all down and took a picture...as well as posted on here for historical purposes Wink

The drain plug seems to be leaking again Confused I suppose that's what I get for buying the cheapest pan/filter I could find from amazon. I attempted to loosen and clean while hot and started to strip the 10mm hex, so I'm letting it cool down and see if I can't get better results then.

Mulcher, thanks for the info. that is about spot on with my findings!
