Lumbar Support stuck on how-to | |
So I have had my driver's seat lumber support fully inflated for a while and finally lost the rag with it today and started digging for the problem.
I looked allot online and on various forums for answers, with little or no valuable input to be found, bar a not too bad idea of a big pin! There was talk of a pressure release solenoid from someone who then had no help further as to where this was or how to operate it.
Anyways i started digging with the actual lumbar switch and there was life somewhere in the seat when i pushed the pressure release button but no release of pressure. I then, snapping all the clips as i went, removed the switches and swapped them from passenger side to driver side, this eliminated the switches as passenger side works perfect. Still no solution.
I then started digging around for the pump and bladder in the seat.
I found if you lift the seat to the highest position and pull full forward everything at the back is much easier to access

The pump and bladder are located behind here

First remove the two stretchy straps holding the back cover taught. These are attached to the seat springs underneath

I then folded it up out the way and clipped onto the seat pocket

The there is two crews under the seat, these are Torx T25

Then the seat back just lifts up and out. RAVE says to remove armrest. I found i wiggled it out and back in with no dramas

Here's what you find, inflated, back breaking bladder, indicated

Here the inflation and deflation hoses

I pulled them out a bit and found two connectors, i tried to break these to release the pressure but found them far too tight to loosen , so i investigated further

The hoses disappear behind another section to the pump and solenoid

I found you could slide off the cover for this as shown

Blue is inflation, Red deflation, so i popped the connection off and released all the pressure in the bladder, then jumped in the seat and made sure i pushed all the pressure out and that the seat was super comfy again.

Only left to reassemble, I found that putting the cover back was a

The just a case of lining up the guide with the two holes below and at the armrest and sorted

I hope this helps anyone else with a similar problem. I suspect my solenoid is jammed and not releasing the pressure when the switch demands. I left the red deflation hose off as I'm very happy without the lumbar support I would also discourage people taking off the seat sides if they don't need to as I broke ALL the clips and now its a little shaky both sides.
