engine temperature

I changed my alternator on the TD6 last week and I found the easiest way to do this was to remove the radiator rather than the power steering pump. Whilst the rad was out, I decided to get it leak tested as I keep losing coolant.

The rad was tested and was fine. I refitted it and topped it up with fresh coolant. It now seems to take a while to get up to temperature and i was wondering if the system needs bleeding etc

I never found the source of the coolant loss to this day. I put a Snap-On pressure tester on the car which also detects gases from any potential head gasket fail. There's no coolant on the floor or in the oil and no sludge, I have no idea where its going unless its leaking on the move and evaporating!

Could be a micro fracture in your expansion tank, they tend to crack at the corners. Best way to check is to get it up to temp and hold a small mirror or such and you'll see steam and moisture on the cold mirror.

Possibly but it has to be hot to get the expansion tank to expand enough to leak. ______________________________

there is a bleed screw on the EGR cooler at the front of the engine, another on the rail that runs down the side of the head and a third on the header tank... so yes they do need bleeding, they also need to be run with the cap off until they get to temp and topped up as you go.....
