2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Zambezi Silver
My car, or former car...

Little update on my l322

I had a few very expensive issues with my range rover when I purchased it so sent it back to the dealer for repairs issues were

Mirrors not folding properly
Drivers seat switches not working
Drivers heated seat not working
Towbar missing (was told by dealer in there somewhere)
Air con not working at all
Steering wheel not moving at all
Rear wiper not working
Was told a few pixels missing from dash only a few worked
Was told they would check gearbox oil history if it hadn't been done they would do it
Parking sensors not working and disconnected
Front drivers side head light wiper not working and disconnect to prevent it being seen

So I agreed with the garage they could have the car for 10 days 21-31 October

On 31st we rang ready tomorrow, 1st we rang ready tomorrow, 2nd we rang ready tomorrow told them needed a courtesy car (that's a whole lot of separate issues)

Collected courtesy car 2nd November was told car should be done tomorrow and would be delivered back to me as the car is in a garage for repairs about 5 miles away from selling garage

Today 10th I have requested a refund from the suppling garage, not heard a thing from them in over a week

Whilst I was emptying the car to take back for work I found an advert for a head gasket repair fluid (why would you keep the with the cars history if it hasn't been used it the car??) This information I have not spoken to the garage about yet it's my backup plan

So hopefully will have a refund shortly and will be looking for a replacement

Needs to be l322 bmw 4.4 engine (will be on gas) want a dark colour but others will be considered I do have to have a dark interior the light stuff makes me cringe

Need to have the satnav / tv screen seen some with the basic radio system what a waste

Could do with a towbar on it factory one preferred seen some really ugly looking towbar sticking out the back

Wife thinks I will regret asking for a refund but it just dosn't feel right, over a week with no updates is poor from any garage

I do agree that the lack of communication can be frustrating, and at the end of the day if you dont feel confident in the car or the dealer then i think you are doing the right thing.

bear in mind though you car is 13/14 years old, and some of the faults are to be expected on a car that age, the steering wheel motor is a very common fault for example, and if you find one where it works you have either found one which has been repaired or one which is about to fail...... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Obviously it depends upon the purchase price but I'd bet that (like me) there are a few people who read this and said 'yep, my car had that issue' to a number of these faults. Whistle

Hmm. All those issues are not "this stops the car from going from A to B". Instead they are annoying and inconvenient. Where I start to get worried: if the previous owner let that many issues slide, how was (s)he on the really important stuff? I think the receipt for the head gasket fluid answers that question. It looks like this is a car that has been neglected and will need a lot of effort and £/$ to get it back running sweetly.

Your question: are you the person to do that, and was the purchase price reasonable considering the work and expense ahead?

Good luck. Thumbs Up

Purchase price was £6k so not exactly cheap, range rover was sold as a real gem of a car

Give you am idea based on my car upkeep

(£150-200 each side replacements breakers yard) Mirrors not folding properly
(£200 New) Drivers seat switches not working
(£150-200 from powerfull uk )Drivers heated seat not working
(depends can be expensive) Towbar missing (was told by dealer in there somewhere)
(If needs a recharge then £50-100 but if something bad looking alot money) Air con not working at all
(not sure on this) Steering wheel not moving at all
(new wiper motor £100-150) Rear wiper not working
(£150-250 pixel fixer) Was told a few pixels missing from dash only a few worked
(gearbox if bad £1600-2000 for rebuild) Was told they would check gearbox oil history if it hadn't been done they would do it
(if just sensor £50 if something major can be expensive) Parking sensors not working and disconnected
(£80-200 new wiper motor) Front drivers side head light wiper not working and disconnect to prevent it being seen

If Head gaskets been bogged and not done correctly you might as well break the car..

lets hope it works out for you, but by sound of it the car has been neglected and i know full well how much it costs to keep these cars running on there top game.

Er....sorry....maybe I missed it? Why did you buy this particular example given its litany of faults? Genuinely curious.

I would be rejecting the car myself...you have more than enough grounds to do so.

Because Zeb all wanted was to drive it expecting it to be ok, as I did with mine, as many others have done. Looks good on the out side looks good on the inside test drive ok, you pays your money.
It is not until you get it home and start flipping switches, and if you are new to a FFRR there are a lot of them, you find your missing extras.
A good seller will sort those out and maybe they are only waiting for parts. It would be nice to be kept informed though.
We will wait and see if he keeps it or gets his money back.

Oh and a blown head gasket is an easy fix and no reason to scrap a car worth more than £1000.

If you've lost confidence in the car and the selling dealer, get rid!

Thumbs Up

Lukie, sorry to hear of your frustrations with the car, and I hope you can sort it out...

If you decide to take another go, and it sounds like you are, can I just point out a few things...

Towbar.. better to a car without, less chance of gearbox issues and a proper ffrr towbar can be had at a very good price from PF Jones.. you want the Westfalia one.. they make them for Land Rover.. just ask when you've got the car and we can give you the correct links Thumbs Up

Radio / TV / SatNav, I will be shot for saying this but here goes... while it sounds great in the Vogue (which is the spec your talking) the SatNav is sub standard and expensive to upgrade, the TV will not work as they are analoge, unless it has had a digital tuner upgrade, not cheap. And you wont be able to plug in an ipod with out expensive extras too... In fact the system is very expensive to upgrade and maintain (not the most reliable) and you would be far better off fitting an Android upgrade to the car... it will do more than the LR can ever be upgraded to for less money than it will cost to replace a few bits in the system (6 units if I'm not mistaken)... So less spec leaves more dosh to improve the car to your standards Razz

If you don't feel up to fitting the system there are a few places and Pete, that can do it... Details here...

I agree with Mr Miggit when it comes to 2002-2005 cars. I don't think those (really nice) android radios work with the later MOST system.

Just what I thought. Big Cry I'd seriously consider one if they did. It would be about the same price as the iPod adapter cable for a 2008. Censored

You could put one in..but you'd have to take your hand off the wheel to operate it Shocked And there is a thought that just removing the MOST head will cause havoc with the system.. so it would need to be relocated to the glove box Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
