Quick oil change gone wrong

Big Cry
ok. What should be a 30 min / £50 job has become a nightmare.
The sump plug was dry but just span round instead of coming undone.
It eventually came off and so did part of the neck.

a new sump plate is 250 quid.
to get me back in the road the options as I can see are
1) put a bolt through with copper washers either side
2) chemical metal the hole
3) weld the hole up

what's the consensus?
cheers
jake

Oops.

Not sure that's fixable. If you can weld it up it would be the most permenant solution. Looking at it I'm not sure you have enough lip to make a seal with washers. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hi Nm.
Thanks for your quick reply.
Yea. If it was just the thread a bolt might do but with this it'll be wonky. Good point.

anyone in the west mids / Staffordshire area able to tig this for me.

Shane a hammer won't fix it.

cheers

England 2003 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Zambezi Silver

I've just discovered that my sump plug was held in with silicone sealant - not good. So when I loosened it to drop the oil then tried to tighten it I realised why the sealant was there.

So I emailed a few breakers on eBay and I had one delivered for £50 in 2 days, it was as good as new.

So I would email a couple of breakers on eBay if I was you and replace it with a used item.

I was going to buy a kit to enlarge to hole and then tap a thread into it and use the sump plugs supplied, but I was afraid my cack handedness would get in the way and I'd have to buy a replacement anyway.

It's here if you want it and all you have to do is pay for the postage and buy the sump plug repair kit.

PM me if you want it. ______________________________

Yes, get on eBay, I think you can use the x5 lower sump too. just ask for overnight courier.
I bought a whole sump for £100, so be prepared to have to buy the whole thing. The upper sump is needed (unique) on the l322 engine, so sell that on.
Obviously, just take off the lower, and replace it.

I think I was lucky, I asked for and did receive just the lower sump pan. As I've said my old one is here if you fancy tapping it out and putting in a slightly larger sump plug.
