England 2014 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Loire Blue
New Volvo XC90

Just been to meadowhall centre and Volvo have got a temporary shop. In it they have the new XC90 which i had a butchers at while my missus went to Debenhams

I am afraid to say i was very impressed and would seriously consider one to replace my Rangerover Shocked . The model they had was the range topper T8 hybrid (2.0 turbo/supercharged petrol and electric motors-almost 400bhp!!). But it was the interior that impressed me the most, very classy and well screwed together, 7 seats as standard and fantastic bowers and wilkins sound system

Hopefully by the time i am ready to swap again they will have dropped in price to my level but i can see myself being swayed away from the LR badge Shocked Embarassed

It's got a 4 pot tractor engine with the torque of a mini. Best of luck.

Shame as it's a lovely looking thing that seems well designed and beautifully put together. Graham

New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

I think that the difference from one car to the next is reducing rapidly while cars are getting better and better. I found it hard to defend the price difference between a new LR4 and a Range Rover after driving said new LR4 in South Africa. Luckily second hand prices are much closer together so it is more justifiable and an RR is much nicer looking.

I have seen the XC90 as well (already popular in Malaysia), not so taken with the outside (bit bland and looking like a lot of other cars these days) but I believe you on the inside refinement. Volvo has been improving as well since they have ample Chinese money pouring into the business. Interesting to see how European manufacturers (JLR/Volvo) need Far East money to make their businesses run or at least get them out of their dips years ago to now thrive. It shows that the knowledge and willingness is there but the money just wasn't there to make it work. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

The one i looked at was the petrol hybrid which was very nice but would find it difficult to justify spending another £10k+ over the equivalent diesel model for the miles that i do. The hybrid has plenty of go 0-60 5.6 seconds and 140mph but can average 130+mpg (obviously not at the same time Rolling Eyes )

Hopefully the L405 will also have dropped to a more affordable price by the time i am ready so i can have a choice Thumbs Up

True, but still a 4 pot engine. Delta is £13k by the way. Graham

I can understand the attraction of 130 mpg, but what are the running costs? Whistle It's all well and good saying that it only lightly sips petrol... but does it compensate with tons of battery power, and are you left at the side of the road after 100 miles cos all the lecy been drank instead... Also just how much lecy do they need for a recharge.. some of the "fast" chargers are 125 amps + and still take over an hour to charge. You might feel really Mr. Green until the electric bill turns up then it could be Embarassed or worse Big Cry

I just worry that the Greenies aren't telling the whole truth when it comes to electric cars... and then there is the question where does the power come from? OIL, COAL and GAS.... what one hand takes away the other hand.....

Lets just run a scenario... everyone is forced / chooses at gun point to convert to electric power tonight... what's going to happen to the grid... I'll tell you it will melt Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

miggit it's a plug in hybrid with only a small EV range. 9.2KWh battery. Charging it from flat will cost 9.2p * your elec price per unit, say 10p, so 92p, plus any losses due to inefficiencies. Maybe say £1.20. Gets you about 25 miles. The petrol range is normal. It doesn't count as an ULEV as it's a petrol car with a battery, not a BEV with a range extender. Graham

Shocked 130 miles total, less 25 miles electric...... 105 mpg...... my moped wouldn't do that Whistle me thinks that there is a bit of misleading going on there... like all those cars that are hard pushed to get 50% of their claimed MPG... Please don't get me wrong, it is a great looking car, and I suspect well built.. just have my doubts about 130 MPG.. if it's true then that is amazing Bow down Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

They're nice cars - but they very much are cars, and not really a true replacement for a Range Rover (or more likely Discovery). Definitely wouldn't choose one if I wanted to ever go off-road or tow regularly.

D5 is OK once you're underway and can't hear it - certainly quick enough to overtake etc. - the one major issue is awful road noise, which is apparently only an issue on the 20" wheels with Continentals. That aside, a refined and a pleasant place to be (although the ride isn't great on either steel or air), and the technology is miles ahead of LR.

Re T8 - 130 mpg is complete fantasy.

Ah, but were they positive comments... or was it more like what's that big puddle under that car Shocked Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Yes the ffrr has presents, it makes a statement when it arrives.. sometimes for the wrong reason when it's on the back of a recovery vehicle Embarassed But generally it says I have arrived Mr. Green Thank God Shocked

What I find hard to get my head around is it's a very common car on the English roads.. and yet it retains the feel of exclusivity... Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
