I bought an end of series L322 4.4TDV8 Vogue last year in September with delivery only in January.
Discount was 47.5%. 30 of them were available in Belgium and all were sold in two weeks.

Why would I wait two years?

I've driven the L405. It's a fine car but the difference with the last L322 is not spectacular. 2017 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 silicon silver

You could always buy a petrol version in a 2010MY, much cheaper!

So what's the criteria for buying a petrol over diesel, why would one choose a petrol is what I mean?

United Kingdom 2014 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Corris Grey

Because they're cheaper to buy secondhand, mainly due to the significantly worse fuel economy. However, resale value is also proportionally lower so if money is a consideration, diesel is probably cheaper in the long run. That said, I bought a petrol D3 because I don't like the mess of diesel, especially now our local garage (with attended service) has closed down, servicing costs are lower, I get the nice V8 burble and it's smoother & quieter than my old TDV8 Vogue ever was.
