Upper tailgate light switch adjustment

Had a brand new battery drain overnight a few weeks ago. The man from the AA said that it could have been the tailgate not being 'fully' closed leading to the rear compartment interior lights staying on. The car did tell me the tailgate was open, but I only checked it by pulling on the bottom edge - it wasnt loose - rather than opening/closing it. Since then I have made sure to firmly close the tailgate and havent had a problem, but yesterday I inadvertently left the parcel shelf open and noticed that the interior lights were on again. I ended up having to slam the tailgate quite hard - not a good idea! Can anybody help with the location and adjustment of the switch for the rear interior lights? I think it is something to do with the catch, but is it possible to adjust? QUID FACIUM TIBI

switch the interior lights 'all' off by pressing and holding the front centre roof interior switch....see if this sort the drain. ... - .- -.

I wasnt aware that the switch at the front controlled the rear luggage compartment (posh word for boot) lights. As long as I make sure I look through the tailgate glass to make sure the light next to the 12v socket is off I assume the tailgate is closed, but it sometimes means slamming it quite hard - not good..... QUID FACIUM TIBI

I had the same on my car the catch (keeper)on the bottom tailgate was loose, tightened the two screws after adjusting and hay presto all was well. The worst thing about being retired is you miss out on all the bank holidays

The light switch is part of the lock mechanism and can't be adjusted as such..... but the tailgate does have a 2 stage lock which maybe able to be adjusted so that the upper tailgate doesn't have to be shut so hard to achieve a total lock situation. Might also pay you to leave the parcel shelf open and shut the tailgate a few times... you'll be able to work out how hard it has to be shut to get the lights to go off Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Shocked ^^ it also uses the boot light switch for the alarm system, so if it's not turning the light off it's also not turning the alarm on Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

This does not sound right at all to me, If you leave the tailgate open the lights all turn themselves off after about 20 minutes anyway, I think this is when the bcm" goes to sleep

I think your looking at another problem

Wot Dave says is correct Thumbs Up The lights should extinguish them selves after 30 minutes,,,,

I had a problem with my battery going flat overnight and it turned out to be a drowned DSP amp.... it also messed up the central locking and the mirrors, and the radio was silent Sad Having unplugged the DSP all is good again except no sound from the radio Big Cry

Assuming you have a Vogue, it would be worth having a prod about in the radio / nav compartment, just to check the moisture levels..... also have a look of the menu screen of the head unit and make sure that everything is listed that you have.... if it's disappeared from the list, chances are that's the problem.... it's not unknown for the nav unit or one of the other modules in the boot to reek havoc with the electrical system and cause no end of problems inc flat batteries Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Yep got a Vogue - the aa man couldn't find anything draining the battery and i have carried out all of the checks but there is nothing obvious. It only happened the once and i will just keep everything crossed that it doesn't happen again. There is the issue of how hard should it be to 'slam' the tailgate to make the lights go out... QUID FACIUM TIBI

not sure if it's a repair you would entertain but will share with all just in case

on my other car nissan murano I had the same issue with the boot lights, think mine were not working at all, the switch is built into the locking mech also, I took the negative wiring off the back of the unit cut it away from the loom (use rave or multimeter) I them got a metal pole switch from eb*y drilled a small hole in boot lid where it struck the bottom plastics take just the earth cable to a spade connector

type in bonnet pole switch to find them

the spade end touches the tunnel which allows the spade end to be grounded to earth, there is I think other options that have 2 spades which will allow a positive connection

Whistle Well knowing ffrr's as I do Big Cry I wouldn't recommend drilling extra holes in the bodywork to fit a switch.... God knows they fill up with water quick enough without the extra holes Wink

Plus I think that you'd be hard pushed to find a place to mount the switch where it would A, fit and B, work..... And don't forget there is a lake lurking under the upper tailgate, which is leased every time you open the boot Shocked

Personally I would look into the lock mechanism and try to adjust it to work better.... after all it's stated that slamming the tailgate will extinguish the lights, so it sounds like the striker needs to be moved rearwards so that not so much force is needed......

Whistle Of course we are making the assumption that the OP isn't the next Monty Burns Whistle

Might pay to test a few other ffrr's to make sure it's the car with the problem.... after all the tailgate is one of the biggest causes of a flooded boot, and that's when it's 'working' Shocked Laughing Laughing Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
