L322 4.4tdi Engine Serial Number

Dear forum members,

I am considering purchasing a 4.4 tdi to replace my trusted 3.6 tdi. Dealer has one 4.4 in stock which he claims has had new engine installed (with 2 new turbos).

If I would like to check the engine serial number, where should I look?

Is there a way to confirm the production date of the new engine from the serial number?

I am asking because the car is 2011 and the engine should have been changed in 2015.

I just would like to be very sure of that, as we are talking substantial amount of moneys and one never knows these days...

You could call LR customer services; they seem to be generally helpful. If the seller is a LR dealer, they should be able to provide LR paperwork/history confirming this from the LR computer system.

I don't know of it applies to the L322 but I've seen two 4.6 P38s with stamped rocker covers, stamped with something like "replacement" if memory serves.

I don't know about the TDV8 engines but on the SCs the number is in an impossible place to get to when the engine is built into the car. I tried on my 4.2 (needed it for rego) but no way without an endoscope.

Since they are both JLR engines, I'm afraid on the TDV8 it will be as bad.

Have a look online or in the workshop manual. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

thank you so much both.

Actually the LR dealer just provided both SN (old and new) and old and new car documents where you can read the engine SN. So they did change the engine and, I therefore trust, the 2 turbos.

They do not seem to recall what blew the engine apart but I guess a lack of oil or clogged oil lubrication as they had to change the engine and turbos. I hope that this will not happen again if I buy it! Rolling with laughter Bow down

I saw the price list of engine and turbos and almost had a fit!
