But how do you get the electrically adjustable ones on a FFRR off in an emergency? How many Torx wrenches does it need and how many settings do you need to go through?

Steering wheel fully left, then right, ignition key in to position 2, foot down on accelerator, turn steering wheel to the left again, remove key...........

I remember on my 02 322 they did just simply pull out even though being electric. Assume its the same for all models. 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

Never tried it! You never know with these FFRR's what they are going to do if they think that they are being abused at all!!

A fire officer once told me that when training new recruits he used to tell them that the area where the maker's name appears on vehicle glass was a weak spot, which enabled you to break it by pushing hard with your thumb. He would demonstrate this to their amazement, unaware that he had a spring loaded bolt nestled below his thumb. 😄

He then stood back and watched each of them jabbing their thumbs at the training car windows in vain. Mr. Green

This is a bit gross so if easily offended, read no further.

Completely unrelated other than another example about fooling students, a friend of mine relayed the story of his friend, a Chief Pathology lecturer who was giving a lecture about taking the temperature of a cadaver by putting a finger in the rectum and then putting the finger in his mouth. The students duly copied him except for one minor detail; they were not observant enough to notice that he used one finger for rectal insertion and an entirely different finger for putting in his mouth.
There endeth his lesson on observation.

Myself, a Crystal Palace fan.. Have not yet attained the ultimate accolade... To become, an 'ultra'

and the respected seniority, that comes with the grade....
This guy, is doing, what his fellow Ultra's are willing him onto.... To attain promotion.....

To get the headrest, THE HARD WAY !...

On a more serious note... Whilst you are sinking into the water, you just rolled into, and are laying on the roof, the headrest, is far too hard to remove, if indeed possible by any layman driver.
You can buy a simple glass breaking hammer, that also allows cutting the seat belt. To allow you or other passenger, (or both) to get the corpse/unconscious obstruction, away, and yourself, out. Things are so different, when not upright, and in a panic.

They need to be reachable, and in a fixed holder. Not in the door pocket. As a pair, you have extra security
And just £5
Shouldn't it be factory fitted to all cars?

There is one flaw in thinking this is a universal way to break the windows in a car.......

Note in the video that the window shatters after the stem of the headrest is forced against it........what happens when you have laminated side windows designed to keep their integrity Shocked 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

What about if you have the RSE? Surely the wires in the headrests are going to cause issues? Also good luck smashing through the double laminated glass, even more so if you have tints.

Plus, if we're upside down and my car is all messed up, if you start ripping away at the interior panels, you'd better hope I drown because otherwise I'm going to slap you about.

Seriously though aren't you supposed to wait for the water pressure to equalise, using those last breaths of air to calm down and then open the door normally?

Right here we go,
1;Headrests are not "designed to break glass , BUT if they come out easily and in most modern cars without the seat reclined along way back they don't easily , they do have a metal rod I suppose but there is not enough room to now swing most modern big head rests . And any way you have to get out of your seat , turn around and release the little catch all of which is easy peasy when you are panicking and underwater Shocked

2; The glass is weak any wear along it's edge . Remember it's not really a corner there is glass under the sill line , same as your sealed double glazing at home for future reference and we used self activating centre punches .

3; Heaven forbid you do end up in the water just do you best to get a window open , you won't survive long enough for the pressure to equalise and just open a door because the car has to be totally full for that to work .
