Failure due to low oil pressure is a strange one on a rebuilt engine. There were a couple of threads dealing with low oil pressure earlier today. They seemed to point towards incorrectly fitted aftermarket oil filters.

I agree it should be simple, however the challenge is you struggle to get oversize pistons and undersize crank bearings, the cranks donn't like being ground and because they are cold snapped rods you struggle to get accurate fitting bearings and that seems to be the cause of subsequent problems.

I know a really good engine builder who cut his teeth stripping v8s with his dad when he was 6 he has his own garage building high power skylines I'm not sure if he would be up for rebuilding a tdv8 but i can ask him if you want if he doesn't he may know someone who does L322 2008 vogue

I think any good engine remanufacturer could do it for you, but it's all about availability of any broken or worn parts. |

Sleeper, Thanks for the heads up, I spoke to them today and they will not get involved with TDV8 Diesels so no joy there. |

Did you see it running? If yes, I reckon this is your best ticket out of the situation. Base your rebuild on that block. The piston might be a duffer, but if its just a bottom piece of the skirt, then it'll have fallen, maybe bumped off the crank/rods and landed in the sump. It wont necessarily have damaged anything else. any scoring (if present at all) on the cylinder would most likely be below the piston ring lines, so compression would remain OK. If it were me, I would swap out that single piston+rod with a matching piston from one of the other blocks which you think is OK. Then bolt it all back up and fire it up. What have you got to lose? Its a running engine (you think) with a small piece of piece of metal thats been sat in the sump doing nothing. It should still run. I used to strip and rebuild my old rover V8's. Whilst the tolerances are higher in the tdv8, I can't imagine that the general process is that much different, especially if you are just removing and refitting the same parts. Its a pity your not closer (i'm ayrshire) a rebuild of an engine is something I would like to help you on / learn the tdv8, but I think I would get my jacksie booted by the missus! ![]() |

ability I have time I donnt, hence I was looking toget the engine work done by a decent 3rd party then refit it all which in its self is no small job, I want the RR as a long term spare car, I have a 4.4 and a very high mile D3 that i would replace with this 3.6 RR, but i need to be confident in it long term and donnt mind spending sensible money on a decent engine, just not the £10k JLR want for one, I would rather sell it as is sell the D3 and buy a second 4.4.
