2012 L322 4.4 autobiography or 2013 L405 3.0 Vogue

As the subject suggests...... Warranty is up on my 4.4 autobiogphy at the end of the summer and going to cost £100 a month to extend. I've been offered an L405 3.0 vogue with a little more miles at cost neutral payment inclusive of 2 year warranty. What would you guys do? Thanks.

I think you know the answer to that one - I think you are just looking for the support you need to sell the idea to SWMBO Whistle

Not wishing to back track on my last post....but it may be worth doing some research into the 3.0 engine seizure issue that seems to be becoming a more frequent occurence.

Sounds like you'd be buying from a main dealer under LR warranty - so you'd be ok - but whilst it's early days it feels a lot like the Porsche 996 / 997 IMS bearing failure issue from the early noughties.

I know all about that as I had a 911 (997) C2S engine go bang on me and was very very lucky to avoid a £12k bill.

Jus' sayin'. Confused Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

I'd keep the 322 and not bother with extending the warranty. I was disgusted with LR's attitude to their corrosion warranty when I had rusty wheel arches after about 2 years. They declined to pay, citing "external influence - weather conditions". I thought if that was their attitude to a claim I thought 100% legitimate, what would be their attitude to other claims? I decided I would save the £1200 odd and just take the risk, partly supported by my experience with my 2004 4.4 322, which was actually OK between years 3 and 4. Touching wood as I write, to date there have been no problems with my 2012 car since the warranty expired (September 2015). Of course "past performance is not a guide"...

I don't know about finance, but based on cash prices my view is that a 2012 322 offers better value and greater practicality than a 2013 405. I'd also be put off by the stories of 3.0 engine seizures. On a purely emotional level I prefer RRs to have V8s and I think if I bought a 3.0 I would always hanker for the higher performance of one of the other engines and think I could have done better. Only Range Rovers since 1988

How many actual stories of the 3.0 going bang are there ?

I'd be very tempted by the L405 but would check it out first - the 'base' music system is poor IMHO - that is one thing that would always make me feel like I'd gone cheap - the 3.0 engine is by all accounts perfectly adequate.

322 all the way, really don't like the 405 and the 3 ltr seems to be a real pain itn.

The appeal of a new car and especially a newer FF is always going to be a significant temptation but the SDV6 would be too much of a gamble for me. I'd either extend the warranty or put the money aside and have a nice midweek break near Cam-Tech for checking and servicing.

That or save for an SDV8 if you really want a 405...it's only conjecture but the current issues with the SDV6 could ruin its reputation and its value making it a very good buy in the future (once they are sorted that it is) but make it difficult to sell. Just a thought.

A couple of months back I was loaned a 3.0 Vogue for a couple of days.
A lovely car but sadly underwhelming. I always thought I was going to be wowed / blown away moving from a 322 to 405.
The 3.0 engine seemed nippy enough low down compared to the 4.4 but always seemed as though you had to work it harder and it almost seemed as if it was breathless - if that makes sense.

Then and there I made a decision that if I ever moved from the L322 it would have to be another 4.4 and at least another vogue SE if not autobiography (as I'm kind of spoiled as my 322 VSE does have quite a few extra toys)
